Report: Imam al-Sadr Died in Prison Cell in Libya Capital in 1998
إقرأ هذا الخبر بالعربيةRevered Lebanese spiritual leader Moussa al-Sadr, who went missing in Libya in 1978, died in the prison that he was detained at, al-Liwaa newspaper reported on Tuesday.
The report said that al-Sadr died of natural causes in the summer of 1998, while he was detained at Libya’s capital central prison in an underground cell.
A source in the National Transitional Council in Libya told the newspaper that al-Sadr’s body was preserved in a fridge at the prison based on orders made by slain dictator Moammar Gadhafi or by his assistants.
The preliminary investigations indicate that the body of al-Sadr remained in the fridge for almost 12 years until the first days of the revolt against Gadhafi.
“Gadhafi and the prison warden wanted to hide the traces of the crime that the former regime had denied (of committing) for more than thirty years,” the source told al-Liwaa.
It said that the body of al-Sadr might be buried in a mass grave in one of Tripoli’s suburbs.
Asked about the fate of al-Sadr’s companions, the source said that they haven’t found any trace of them.
In 1978, al-Sadr and his companions flew to Tripoli for a week of talks with Libyan officials. They were never seen or heard from again. The day he was last seen, on Aug. 31, 1978, is still marked annually in Lebanon.
At the time, Gadhafi’s regime insisted al-Sadr and his aides left on a flight to Rome at the end of their visit and suggested the imam fell victim to an inter-Shiite power struggle.
Enough with these unconfirmed reports. Every possible scenario has been reported surrounding this case!!!!
OK he is been dead for 10 yrs, what's next? are we trying to plan a car bomb against who did it? enough already because thousands of other Lebanese died during the civil war and some even disappeared the same fashion during the invading Syrian Army to Baabda when they took over from the Aounist.
sadr was last seen wearing lipstick and blush, hog tied while being smacked on the bum by his aides. He later decafitated into a turban which later became hassan nasralalaaa
Qaddafi got what he deserved, Imam Moussa al Sadr whoever doesn't remember him, was a great loss for Lebanon.
the response is for BERRI - you are showing great disrespect for a holy man who was loved by all Lebanese of all the religious sects - he was a very hospitable man who would give you the shirt of his back and feed the poor and hungry whether they were christians-sunni-chiite-druze-alaoui , he was the most respectfull man toward anyone - and he was so courtious , he deserves all our respect and yes , he must be found and brought back to Lebanon , my respects to all his family , I hope that we will all remember him for what he really was , a true messenger of peace - the Shiite community had a saint in this man , no-one has the right to joke about his memory - and I do mean , no-one -
Amal and Hizb refer to this guy as a saint. Well there were other saints Kamal J, R Harriri, G Tueni, P Gmyyel. They all equally if not more worked to the benefit of all lebanese. However THEY are not shown respect by your peers, they are mocked and disrescpected, so equally there shall be no respect shown for your Sadr.
Tezz 3ala Sadr wel jahash yalli rekebo
this web site has been turned into a disgrace by commentators in the like to BERRY and SYRIAN...
shame on people like you who have nothing better to say than to curse people who do not share your ideology...
but more so, shame on Al Nahar for letting you do that in front of respectable readers... In fact, I have raised my concern to Al Nahar who claimed they are/will moderate the comments. Now, I am startng to think that Al Nahar is not better than BERRI and SYRIAN!
I am not surprised and seeing Lebanon in such a mess when we have people like you disrespecting everyone and everything...
i want to insure you that those fingers who typed those words will be choped soon, wait and see.
