Jumblat Says Khalil's Austerity Measures 'Better than Suicide'

W460

Progressive Socialist Party leader ex-MP Walid Jumblat noted Monday that the austerity measures proposed by Finance Minister Ali Hassan Khalil remain "better than suicide."

"The PSP reminds of its historic stance that calls for a progressive tax system after approving a unified wage system, in addition to fining seaside property violators, reevaluating Measure No. 3, approving a unified wage scale and resolving the electricity disaster," Jumblat tweeted.

"It is better to approve these measures today to avoid the unknown," he warned.

The PSP leader added: "Since the 1990s, the PSP has had numerous stances calling for a reevaluation of priorities, but they fell on deaf ears."

"And unfortunately the demand of reform and fighting corruption came late by some parties due to narrow political calculations. That's why I see that implementing the austerity policy proposed by Minister Khalil, no matter how severe, remains better than suicide," Jumblat went on to say.

I'm not convinced. Let Jumblat and Khalil commit suicide first; we can discuss the nuances of the austerity measures after.

The arsonist playing firefighter!

The economic crisis was caused by the same political class that's been robbing the people for the last 30 plus years!

We are great at complaining and throwing accusations of corruption and yet we the Lebanese re-elect the same sectarian leaders again and again. Mostly we are not citizens because the majority do not vote and do not pay taxes.
But look we are really good at pointing fingers. We think we are superior to voting, sacrifice and giving back to our country. We just want to come to the country with our suitcases and expect everything to be as great as it is in Europe or the US, where they endured centuries of death, massacres, corruption and destruction.
Stop complaining and do your duty as a citizen.
