Jumblat Slams 'Stupidity' of Some Officials over Qaida Remarks

Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblat accused on Monday officials in Lebanon of resorting to claiming that the al-Qaida terrorist group had infiltrated in order to serve their interests.

He said in his weekly editorial in the PSP-affiliated al-Anbaa magazine: “The stupidity of those individuals did not take into account the sensitivity of the situation in the region when they said that al-Qaida had entered the town of Arsal.”

“They did not take into consideration the negative repercussions that their statements would have on the town,” he added.

Furthermore, he said that some politicians and security officials did not hesitate to announce that al-Qaida had infiltrated Arsal, “completely disregarding the town’s rich Arab history.”

“The issue of al-Qaida, should it exist in Lebanon, should not be addressed through the media and various television debates, but through the specialized official circles,” stressed Jumblat.

Defense Minister Fayez Ghosn had stated a few weeks ago that al-Qaida members had entered Arsal.

The statements came shortly before twin bombings in Damascus that killed over 40 people.

The Syrian regime accused al-Qaida of being behind the attack.

The March 14-led opposition slammed Ghosn’s statements, saying that they were an attempt to link Lebanon to the instability in Syria.

Addressing the situation in Syria, Jumblat praised the Arab ministerial committee’s efforts in ending the crisis, saying that they have realized the importance of a political solution to the matter.

“We look forward to a time when the Arab League would represent the free Arab people and we hope that it would meet their aspirations for equality, freedom, and democracy,” added the PSP leader.

Turning to the various Syrian activists and their “peaceful political struggle”, he remarked: “I apologize for taking too long to join the rest of the people demanding Syria’s freedom.”

“I hope the crisis will end as soon as possible and that a new, free, and democratic Syria would emerge,” Jumblat concluded.

Lebanon has been, for quite sometime, a letter box for our neighbors, using Lebanese proxies who cares less for Lebanon's interest, the only think that they care for is their own interest.
As long as we have such proxies, we will never ever have peace.
I do not know if I live to see every single Lebanese puting the interest of his/her country first..This needs a lot of work, mostly on the shoulders of the governement to enforce the spirit of belonging (Mouatiniah)and to treat the people fairly and equally regardless of their gender, sect or religion..We have a rotten system that we should all rebel against

the filthy ziono-americano industrial military complex (Eisonhower talked about this when he warned americans about defending their democracy) that thinks it sets time in worlds seems to convince jumblatt to change his position one more time. Nothing will change and patriotic people in lebanon don't want to give up on their allies in syria.

talking about democracy . how long have u been leader mr joumblat ? more than bachar i think ,...
what is wrong is that all who is claiming democracy is not himself a ddemocrate or democracy
that goes from our lebanese leaders (non of them is elected ) by his party
and arab kings and presidents non of them is elected
so please talk about anything but not democracy

Bashar Assad not only looks like "Fredo Corleone", the spineless middle son in “The Godfather” movies, he actually is Fredo Corleone, in real life...Fredo has come back from the dead, after getting shot on the boat while fishing and praying the "Hail Mary" and has been resurrected as Bashar Assad, and dumped onto the people of Syria.....Ya Bashar, do you know the "Hail Mary"? Hail Mary, Full of Grace, The Lord is with thee, Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus , Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now, and at the hour of death. We will pray you, you sinner, at the hour of your death....

The officials are really stupid because in another country that respects its citizens, they would have sent Jumblat to the gallows a long time ago, together with Geagea and Rafic Syria, may he rot is hell.

It looks like there are cracks forming in the M8 alliance. Jumblatt has done a bit of travelling recently. Maybe he knows something and is nearly off the M8 ship which is sinking.

the lebanese branch of the filthy zionist information war department are optimistic about some fantacy that they think will happen soon. I am not married yet, but i think my grand children will be old and they will come to me and say" grandfather, there is a halucinating stupid idiot on naharnet say the syrian regime will fall in one month or two". Then I will say to my grandchildren"don't worry jiddo, they said the same when I was young too". Keep your halucinational fantacies..... oh, one more thing, dream on

its so fuuny ghosn sounds like george bush 'war on terror' and goes on saying we hav terrorists and we hav to b afreadi, if anything, this should b left to the relevant anti terrorist police forces and if theyre not doing the job then it should b solved internally and an inquiry at all levels could start...not a press conference with an opened-button shirt mr ghosn. in 3 words, jumbalt is right

Gabby, 10425 and other farts, what do you mean in two months the regime will fall and M8 ship is sinking? Guys, what substance are you on? You never stop predicting, and apparently your predictions have not once failed :). Is this why you keep predicting around the same topic every single day for the past 7 years or so? But then why should you stop when you seem to be entertaining yourselves and giving yourselves new doses of hope with every new hallucination? Living in a virtual reality seems to be the only reality that makes sense to you! Have fun as long as your dope lasts. :) Sweet dreams, sweeties.

Why is everything American and zionist? Is this the only way to get the support of in educated people by relating everything as American Zionist? The legitimate people's view that does not align with yours can be an Arab view? are your views dictated by Iranian politics only ?

Default-user-icon FreeLeb (Guest) 10 January 2012, 10:46

Prishti, u're right. these people are substance addicts. and the drugs they're on are racism and strife served to them by their favorite drug dealers, their own political leaders themselves working for bigger cartel bosses US and affiliates. It s been working for a few years but it s time for bid time detox. it s still time for the gallows. no amnesty for war criminals who made it their business to slaughter civilians. Mr Jumblat: After you. You lead the march to the gallows

I have been reading naharnet for a while now and it is getting exhausting reading the crap that comes out of this guy.

You obviously speak english well enough, which tells me you live in a western country, Australia/USA ?

"filthy information zionist war department" ? who the hell came up with that? was it just translated with google translator from farsi ?

Naharnet is obviously a pro-democracy news media, so everything they print is going to be unfavourable to your views, which begs the question why do you even post here?

Do us a favour and go post on Tayyar or AlManar if they even have websites with freedom of speech.
