Bassil Welcomes Cabinet’s ‘Positive Gesture,’ but Asks for its Funding
إقرأ هذا الخبر بالعربيةEnergy Minister Jebran Bassil hailed on Wednesday what he called the “positive gesture” of the cabinet to lease power-generating ships to help reduce severe electricity rationing in the country.
“What happened yesterday was a good gesture by the government in terms of reforming the electricity” sector, Bassil said in a press conference.
“A decision to lease the vessels to back the production of electricity was made yesterday,” he confirmed, adding the rehabilitation of the Zouk and Jiyyeh power stations was necessary.
The cabinet has called for speeding up the process after tasking the finance ministry and the Council for Development and Reconstruction with asking donors to guarantee the necessary funding.
Bassil stressed that a $1.2 billion dollar project adopted by the government last September to generate 700 Megawatts of electricity needs the funding of the Lebanese authorities first.
International “funds and the World Bank can later fund the projects,” he said.
Meanwhile, the committee of workers and bill collectors at the state-run power company, Electricite du Liban, called for a strike next Tuesday over the government’s failure to meet their demands.
It said a sit-in will be held at the seaside entrance of the company at 10:00 am Tuesday.
“positive gesture” really did he enjoy Sleiman and Boul Fa3our's middle finger? Baby Bassil trying to put a positive spin on Sleiman and Boul Fa3our handing him his a$$ and putting him in his place. Wait and see the usual fools chest thump in triumph at his "accomplishments".
agree completely with independence. it's interesting that all bassil and aoun care about is the $1.2 Billion from the Lebanese gov't. What a bunch of liars and thieves.
Bassil is a fantastic and honest minister who is working hard for Lebanon and refuses to continue with the old and corrupt practices of the previous period. He knows Arab funding will take 2 years to come through and be subject to Politics. Keep battling for the Lebanese basil and ignore the supporters of the previous corrupt 20 years. We are proud of you.
the filthy zionist information war department is not happy because lebanese will solve their electricity problem
From your keyboard to the Zionist spies infested bee4at al hadibat pretending to be the party of God's ears jabalamel, solving the electricity problem obviously mean your fellow pro alleged Resistance chimps will stop beating up the power company's bill collectors and start paying their bills. HAYDAR HAYDAR HAYDAR!
the question is why the government is in the electricity business in the first place . ? when was the last time the government lunched a venture that was successful for the sole sake of the Lebanese citizen !? there is always a catch for someone to pocket money always and this time no different .privatization of this sector is needed where an electric company runs it as a business .but of course where are you going to find a company to invest is a loosing venture ? where people don't pay the bills and a country runs by thugs who are always looking for hand out to get anything done ask Basil how much money he stole so far . it is amazing that the world is in the 21th century and Lebanon is in the 15th century
the filthy zionist information war department has taken one more wrong report from mossad spies, thinking that my mother looks like in the picture.
I have read that this country has a 1100 megawatt deficit in electricity--why is the minister only recommending that a 700 megawatt power plant be built? Wouldn't a 1200 one be better in that it could cover future needs?
We can't count on getting electricity from Syria any more--the only other option would be to try to hook on to the European electrical grid through a cable from Cyprus.
International “funds and the World Bank can later fund the projects,” ...Bassil forgot to say, after I get all the money I can steal!
@ Cookie, when you close your eyes and fall peacefully asleep, do you dream about Aoun ...I hope they are not wet dreams ...Yikes, what an Ugly thought :-)

"insults are the tool of the weak"... you've got some nerve... given the fact that your posts (like your master Michel Aoun during his speeches) are always full of hatred, foul language, and insults.
Take a hike now!
