Judicial Sources Fear Truth May Never be Reached in Port Blast Case
The judicial path has been “affected by the political path” in the Beirut port blast investigation and there are fears that truth might never be reached, judicial sources said.
Beirut port blast investigator Judge Tarek Bitar is now suspended, pending the implementation of the decision of the General Commission of the Court of Cassation, the sources added.
The Court of Cassation last week said it is the only authority eligible to look into recusal requests against Bitar.
“We are now waiting for the pending recusal requests to be transferred from the Court of Appeals to the Court of Cassation,” the judicial sources added.
“Higher Judicial Council head Suheil Abboud will have to choose which chamber of the Court of Cassation’s chambers will look into these requests,” the sources said.
It is a very sad day for the families and relatives of the victims of the Beirut port blast. It is a sad day for justice in a country where justice is severely lacking. It confirms what has been known for a long time that corruprion among the ruling class is rife and blatant. I always had a spark of hope for this beautiful country but I have to finally admit that the heartless politicians have burried it.
It just affirms the idea that there are people who deem themselves more important than those that perished and those that remained. What is left? Does Lebanon as a sovereign nation exist? Our national fabric all but destroyed in the hands of heartless souls we put into power. Oh, the tragedy.
It is Michel Aoun who refused an International Investigation, claiming that we were perfectly capable of taking the matter into our own hands!
Shame on this Traitor!
