Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri on Monday hailed “the special achievement made by Lebanese security forces, especially the Intelligence Branch (of the Internal Security Forces) for busting a spy network working for the Israeli enemy inside Lebanon.”

“Once again, we salute and applaud the Lebanese security forces and their vigilant eyes for protecting Lebanon’s security and immunizing its civil peace,” Berri added.

Lebanon said Monday it has busted at least 17 suspected Israeli spy networks, in one of the largest nationwide crackdowns in recent years.

Interior minister Bassam al-Mawlawi informed Cabinet that security forces had "clamped down on 17 spy networks working for Israel," acting information minister Abbas Halabi said after the meeting.

Halabi said the rings operated both "locally and regionally," without elaborating.

Al-Akhbar newspaper said that the ISF's intelligence unit started the crackdown four weeks ago and had so far detained around 20 people, including Lebanese, Palestinian and Syrian nationals -- some of whom were later released.

Berri, a phony heir to Imam Mussa Saddr movement. Saddr was one of Lebanon's great. A believer in building up instead of tearing down, a supporter of institutions instead of criminal militias, a builder of bridges instead of isolation, a believer in Lebanon instead of Hizbollahstan, a seeker of tolerance and unity instead of radicalism and intimidation. If Imam Saddr was among us in 2010, no doubt he would be a champion of the Green Revolution in Iran, and like many freedom and civility supporters, he may have been assassinated by the Basij or their Lebanese version Hizbollah. No greater Useful Idiot than Berri who sold Lebanese Shiaa community and its great culture and heritage to the Basij for personal benefits. Dear Saddr's Shiaa, we are waiting for you on March 13, 2022 at Cedar Revolution II, the day to usher Lebanon's liberation from the basij for true independence.
