Aoun signs govt. resignation decree, lashes out at judiciary and Salameh

President Michel Aoun announced Sunday in a farewell speech in Baabda that he has signed a decree “accepting the resignation” of the caretaker cabinet, as he lashed out at the judiciary and Central Bank Governor Riad Salameh.

”The judiciary is not performing its role and the culprits are still outside courts, perhaps because they are cronies of those in charge,” Aoun said, addressing a crowd of supporters in Baabda.

“They paralyzed the probe into the port blast because the Higher Judicial Council chief does not want the appointments that would lead us to the truth,” the president lamented.

“The country needs reform and to get rid of the influential officials who paralyzed the judiciary and halted investigations into the port blast,” Aoun added.

Noting that the state “can only be built upon two pillars -- security and the judiciary,” the president decried that “the establishment that has been ruling since 32 years is protecting the central bank governor.”

“The central bank governor carried out financial crimes and a judicial and criminal investigation was carried out but it did not reach the court,” Aoun said.

“The country is looted and we have to carry out a lot of efforts to uproot corruption,” Aoun urged.

Addressing supporters, he said: “Today a phase ends and another begins that requires struggle and a lot of work so that we can exit our crises.”

A few minutes later, the president left the Baabda Palace for his residence in Rabieh. His term will end at midnight Monday/Tuesday.

Picture of Aoun honoring Syrian ambassador should be engraved at his tomb. After Cedar Revolution, Lebanon had a unique chance for the first since independence to become truly democratic and free country. This was after liberating Lebanon from Pan Arabism and Palestinian and Syrian armed control of our regions and politics. Just as there were consensus to disarm HizbIran, here comes Aoun aligning with Hizb and providing the only support for Hizb 2006 war to protect its arms. Lebanon went downhill afterward. Aoun knew the consequences but he always sacrificed Lebanon and his idiot followers for his own ego. Now Bassil is using Hizb arms to inflate his ego. This is the worst form of Grand Treason and both Aoun and Bassil should be rotting in prison if there is any justice left!

Huh? When did sunnis (at least 25 % of lebanon) ever agree to "liberate lebanon" from pan-arabism? Mustaqbal is a pan-arab party and sunnis are pan arabists by default. Being against bashar el assad is not the same as being against pan arabism or being pro LF criminals. The sunnis did not participate in the cedar revolution for the same reason as LF. Lebanese sunnis are one with the syrian sunnis. Literally same ancestors. And what do you mean only support for hizb came from Aoun? Marada, non-mustaqbal sunnis and non-psp druze as well as amal were all pro hizb. You are living in some sort of fantasy reality.

Bolshevik Leon Trotsky once said referring to the likes of Aoun: "Go where you belong from now on – into the dustbin of history!"

Worst president in human history. Bankrupted Lebanon, evaporated people lifetime savings, sold our freedom, democracy and dignity to the Basij for 30 pieces of silver and for personal benefits. He brought corruption and nepotism to guinness record levels. He blocked with Hizb elections for 2.5 years t become president justifying duo blocking parliament and bankrupting downtown Beirut to prevent international tribunal for Hariri and dozen other assassinations by criminal Hizbollah. Every appointee by Aoun/Bassil should be fired once Lebanon is free again as Aoun/Bassil perfected political mafia. We hope Aoun lives to be 100 because he should in prison to bring a grain of justice for the millions of Aoun and Hizb victims.

War criminal Geagea did worse than what you accuse Aoun of yet you don't call for him to be jailed. Hyprocrisy.
