Al-Rahi to Hezbollah: No to a president who might stab you in back

W460

The latest visit by a Hezbollah delegation to Bkirki was “very cordial and excellent” and the only political file that was tackled was the presidential crisis, informed sources said.

Patriarch Beshara al-Rahi was “direct in expressing concern over the failure to finalize this juncture, wondering why parliament wouldn’t convene in a single session, similarly to the pope’s election, in which dialogue would be held until an agreement over a president is reached,” the sources added, in remarks to al-Akhbar newspaper published Wednesday.

The delegation for its part said that it would support a dialogue that would lead to a “strong president,” because “the country needs a president enjoying legitimacy stemming from consensus on him from a significant majority.”

“Hezbollah is also keen, as its secretary-general has stressed, on securing the election of a president who would not stab the resistance (in the back),” the delegation reportedly told al-Rahi, prompting him to answer: “Mistaken are those who believe that such a president can be elected.”

The patriarch also told the delegation that he would agree to Suleiman Franjieh’s nomination, according to the sources, to which he was answered that “the Christian blocs are also required to reach an agreement in order to speed up the election.”

Has Naharnet become officially a subsidiary of the Iranian owned and operated Al-Akhbar mouthpiece?

According to Michel Hayek, we will witness dissensions between Bkirke and the Vatican … it looks like Al Rahi is going to get locked up in a convent .

To everyone but Hezbollah and Hidin' Hassan, there is a difference between stabbing someone in the back and expressing or voting a different political opinion.

al-Rahi knows that difference

And he knows that his words will be misunderstood by Shia.

Lebanon is under occupation by the Basij. Any politicians or leader justifying Basij arms is committing treasons. Rahi should make clear that Basij arms are incompatible with Lebanon's democracy and sovereignty. Mixes messages are what brought us to hell and distanced our friends. Enough lies by the Basij and Iran criminal regime. There is a million Palestinian refugees in Lebanon that need all types of assistance and they have done nothing to help them except radicalize them and bringing them more misery. Shame on media for their silence and collaboration with occupiers!

1 million syrian refugees. The Palestinian refugees are between 200 000 and 400 000. Many have already left and many try to get out. The number of refugees whether syrian or palestinian that have been radicalized by the basij are very few.

Cheesecake, you can’t deny the negative influence Iran has on many Palestinians.

But if you count the Palestinian, Syrian, Armenian, Assyrian and other refugees that were given lebanese citizenship since the foundation of the lebanese state then the number is above 1 million and they no longer have refugee status.

Firstly most of the refugees who left Israel in 1948-9 are no longer alive, maybe just 5% of the number you quote. All the rest are children, grandchildren of refugees who in nearly all international organisations are not regarded as refugees.
Secodly, don't you think that if Lebanon (and all the other Arab countries) had given citizenship to these people and enabled them to integrate into the community, there would be very few, if any of them joining pro-Iranian organisations.
