Qatari delegation to meet Hezbollah in bid for presidential 'normalization'
A Qatari delegation is scheduled to visit Beirut next week to meet with Speaker Nabih Berri, caretaker PM Najib Mikati and Hezbollah officials, informed sources said.
The delegation will meet with “Hezbollah’s leadership” in a bid for “presidential normalization with the party in a manner that meets the Arab and international aspirations regarding the needed salvation roadmap for Lebanon,” the sources told the Nidaa al-Watan daily in remarks published Thursday.
“The efforts that Doha is exerting in the Lebanese direction will remain coordinated with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia,” the sources added.
“The Qataris might discuss the name of Army Commander General Joseph Aoun with Hezbollah, since they consider him to be the presidential candidate who has the biggest ability to unify the Lebanese and who enjoys the most Arab and international support for leading the expected reform and salvation phase in the country,” the sources went on to say.
