Raad says rivals 'using' Azour to block election of 'resistance candidate'

The head of Hezbollah’s parliamentary bloc, MP Mohammed Raad, on Monday accused the rival camp of “using” ex-minister Jihad Azour to block the election of “the candidate of the resistance,” in reference to Marada Movement chief Suleiman Franjieh.

“The people of the resistance are being competed against by a group of Lebanese who are nominating and backing a person whom they don’t want to be elected as president. They are only using him to block the election of the candidate of the resistance,” Raad said.

“National partnership is to fulfill the interests of all Lebanese without discrimination, selectivity or persecution of anyone, but others understand national partnership as the use of another group of Lebanese to achieve their partisan interests at the expense of all Lebanese,” the MP added.

OK. What's wrong with that dude? Let 20 candidates be competing with each other. Its called democracy but I can understand why you do not understand it and you want the election to be like damascus or iran where ONLY Bashar or Ayotollah be elected by force.

Politics may be war by other means, but in Lebanon, only one "party" has not laid-down their weapons of physical warfare still ongoing.

Hizbollah strategy is simple and tested. Keep blocking democracy until opposition breaks down capitulating to the force of arms. Hizbollah is great at threats and brutality, a tactic perfected by Iran. Strategically they are idiots as unable to gain any friend or ally by conviction. Not even Amal! While they are buying time to divide opposition, what is really happening is that the whole notion of Lebanon as one nation is no longer believed. All their bullying will not prevent Free Lebanon to separate from Hizbollahstan as nothing left in common. Then Shia will realize what a curse and nightmare Hizbollah is and will try to flee in mass to Free Lebanon. Let us hope they will be still welcomed then as no country in the world is welcoming the Basij!

If Erdogan wants to officially divide Cypress, no one should claim Lebanon too small to be divided. Our population is greater than Denmark & Norway & tiny nations like Lichtenstein are most prosperous. Last elections left no doubt there are 2 distinct Lebanons with nothing in common, contradictory hopes and aims. Combined in unnatural union cause pain and misery to everyone, whereas independent will bring happiness and prosperity. Over half Shia voted for Iranian model, worship Nassrallah and his self-governing institutions. They deserve own nation with all elected offices, own army and Islamic laws. On the other hand, there is common destiny and organic unbreakable link between Christians & Druze. Now eternally joined to Sunnis and free Shia through Rafiq’s blood and Cedar Revolution principles; a shared history of freedom and democracy. Stop pretending we are one nation. A peaceful division like Czechoslovakia helps both sides live to their full potential.

@Negativity, check your history. Lebanese Sunnis are genuinely the most moderate Sunnis in the world. So were Shia prior to Basij occupation. That's why European leaders were friends with Rafiq Hariri, as they saw his message critical to Europe's Sunnis that will in few decades become the majority in Europe. Turkey could have played this role but Erdogan deviated its course. Look at Tripoli and Akkar during Thawra. Of course the vacuum after Hariri's assassination, misery and manipulation caused extremism to reappear, as in Christian areas. But this is not reflective of Lebanon. Look in diaspora, no distinction between Christian, Sunni and Shia. How many Shia are immigrating to Iran? I strongly believe Lebanon remains the most stable and inherently democratic Arab country. Remove Basij indoctrination before it is too late and Lebanon will rise again like a phoenix.
