Report: Army chief tells Raad he's ready to be president if there's consensus
The undeclared meeting between Army chief General Joseph Aoun and Hezbollah’s top lawmaker Mohammed Raad tackled the security situations, the Kahale incident and the UNIFIL resolution as well as the presidential file, media reports said.
According to ad-Diyar newspaper, Aoun told Raad that he is not currently engaged in the presidential battle, but is willing to assume the post if there is “national consensus” over his nomination.
Raad for his part reiterated to Aoun that Hezbollah is clinging to Marada Movement chief Suleiman Franjieh’s nomination at the moment, the daily added.
Al-Akhbar newspaper meanwhile quoted Raad as telling Aoun that Hezbollah is “linking the future of the presidency to inter-Lebanese dialogue.”
Who’s expecting an incompetent soldier to be a competent statesman !? #desillusion #disillusionment. Fixing Lebanon requires intelligent and creative leaders, not soldiers used to taking orders.
Is there actually NO-ONE in Lebanon, such as an academician, perhaps even one presently living overseas in the diaspora, who could possibly be a competant non-political President of the Republic. Someone who would be acceptable to all and who could pull the country out of the mud that it is presently sinking into.
