Berri on buffer zone: Let Israel do it on its side

W460

While Hezbollah opponents call for the implementation of U.N. resolution 1701, Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri says he hopes that Israel implements the resolution.

"I hope they implement it and withdraw from the Shebaa Farms, the Kfarshouba Hills, the village of Ghajar, the 13 contested points and B1," Berri told al-Liwaa newspaper in remarks published Friday, as he denied having discussed the issue with any diplomat or knowing about an imminent visit by U.S. energy envoy Amos Hochstein that would possibly discuss the land border demarcation between Lebanon and Israel.

Recent media reports had claimed a deal that would end the presence of Hezbollah from the area south of the Litani River, in return for Israel’s withdrawal from the occupied Lebanese territories and the 13 contested points.

The area south of the Litani River would become a buffer zone, guaranteeing security to the residents of northern Israel.

"They can make the buffer zone on their side of the border," Berri said.

Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati had said in a statement Tuesday that U.N.-sponsored talks were planned in the coming months, aimed at "reaching an agreement, via the U.N., about contested points along the border with the Israeli enemy".

"We hope that in the next three months we will reach a stage of total stability on our borders," Mikati added.

Asteez dude, I'm sure when you pass on, kick the bucket, expire, rest in peace, cease to be, go to meet your maker, start pushing up the daisies, you will be mummifies and nailed to the parliament speaker chair for all eternity, but with all dues contempt, what you said is just silly. For one you, hassin and the Lebanese government agreed on U.N. resolution 1701, hassin was begging for it at the end. Secondly, your job as an elected Lebanese official is to implement 1701, regardless what the enemy does, because it protects the Lebanese you are supposed to represent. The simple proof is that between 14/8/06 and 7/12/23 not one home, business or property had been damaged. Thirdly, the violation of 1701 from the Lebanese side, were done by an Iranian militia and it's satellites not by the official Lebanese governments. While the violations on the Israeli side are decided by their government, It is clear that the Iranians decide when, where and how 1701 is violated from Lebanon.

To be fair it was the Siniora government who worked around the clock to stop the war that hssin started and to get the ceasefire agreement and UN resolution 1701. The Lebanese cabinet, including hassin and Berri's ministers, unanimously approved it. In fact since 1990 the Syrians and hassin had been violently against sending the Lebanese army to the south.

I understand hassin and the asteez's reluctance on fully implementing UN resolution 1701. How would they assassinate someone like Lokman Slim or Elias Hasroun and go unpunished if they did, right?
