Three killed, UN peacekeepers wounded in Israeli strike on Sidon
Lebanon's health ministry said three people were killed Thursday in an Israeli strike that targeted a car at the main entrance to the southern city of Sidon.
"The Israeli enemy's raid on a car in Sidon resulted in the deaths of three people," the ministry said in a statement.
U.N. peacekeepers and Lebanese army troops were wounded on Thursday's strike.
"Enemy aircraft targeted a car in Sidon near the army checkpoint," NNA said, adding vehicles from the UNIFIL peacekeeping force were in the "same lane" during the raid, which led to injuries among its members who were receiving treatment at the scene.
The Lebanese army said three of its troops and Malaysian U.N. peacekeepers were wounded.
"The Israeli enemy targeted a car while it was passing through the Awali checkpoint in Sidon, which led to the killing of three citizens who were inside it, in addition to the injury of three soldiers manning the checkpoint and members of the Malaysian" contingent in the UNIFIL peacekeeping force, the army said in a statement.
UNIFIL said five peacekeepers were lightly injured and treated by the Lebanese Red Cross on the spot.
"We remind all actors of their obligation to avoid actions putting peacekeepers or civilians in danger. Differences should be resolved at the negotiating table, not through violence," UNIFIL said in a statement.
