Opposition endorses Makhzoumi for PM post
The opposition lawmakers held a meeting overnight in which they announced their support for MP Fouad Makhzoumi for the prime minister post, ahead of Monday's binding parliamentary consultations to name a new PM.
In a statement, the MPs said they backed Makhzoumi in light of "the new phase in Lebanon launched by President Joseph Aoun in the inaugural speech," which requires "a new approach in managing the state."
This course should be "immunized" against the "quotas and corruption" of the past, the opposition said.
"A new chapter should be opened in the premiership post," it stressed.
