Syria will help US fight Hezbollah, Barrack says
U.S. special envoy Tom Barrack hailed Thursday Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa’s historic visit to Washington, saying that Syria will play an active role in assisting the United States in fighting armed groups including Iran's Revolutionary Guards, Hamas and Hezbollah.
On Thursday, Barrack wrote on X that "Damascus will now actively assist us in confronting and dismantling the remnants of ISIS, the IRGC (Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps), Hamas, Hizballah, and other terrorist networks".
Iran's powerful IRGC and Lebanon's Hezbollah were key backers of president Bashar al-Assad before he was ousted last December by a rebel coalition led by Sharaa.
Hamas does not have an armed presence in Syria.
Al-Sharaa met with U.S. President Donald Trump on Monday and announced his country’s "desire, intentions and readiness" to join the 89 other countries making up the global coalition against the Islamic State group, which have committed to combat IS.
While the Islamic State group lost hold of all of the territory it once held in Syria and Iraq years ago, cells of the extremist group have continued to carry out attacks in both countries and abroad.
Al-Sharaa’s visit was the first to the White House by a Syrian head of state since the Middle Eastern country gained independence from France in 1946.
What did Barrack do before he went into whatever he's doing now?
Tom Barrack is in the Epstein files….
Uncle Jeffrey e-mailed him the following on the 9th of March 2016 : “send photos of you and child. — make me smile.”
The same guy who called Lebanese journalists animals….
A load of newly disclosed emails has shed light on the relationship between sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein and US Ambassador to Turkey and envoy to Syria Tom Barrack.
On Wednesday, the US House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform released a trove of roughly 20,000 pages of material after receiving it from the Epstein estate.
In one of the messages exchanged in March 2016, Epstein wrote to Barrack, "Send photos of you and child. Make me smile."
The message reportedly came not long after Epstein told Barrack he was receiving "many calls" about his friendship with Donald Trump but was choosing not to respond. Barrack had earlier suggested the two men should "catch up."
Following Epstein’s death, the private equity investor faced federal charges related to alleged foreign lobbying for the United Arab Emirates but was acquitted by a US court.
The US ambassador to Turkey, however, continues his corporate and political work despite the disclosed emails.
By the time Epstein and Barrack exchanged emails, Epstein had already served about a year in jail for sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl he had hired as a "masseuse" and paid in cash.
