Fierce Clashes in Syrian Capital between Security Forces and Rebels, Four Killed

Three "terrorists" and a member of Syria's security forces were killed in a clash in a district of Damascus on Monday, state television said.
"Three terrorists were killed and a fourth was arrested in the fighting between security forces and an armed terrorist gang sheltered in a house of a residential district," it said.
The report said one member of the security forces was also killed and three others were wounded.
Rami Abdel Rahman, head of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, said earlier that at least 18 security troops were wounded in fighting with rebels before dawn in the upscale and heavily guarded Mazzeh neighborhood.
The fighting in western Damascus, with residents and activists reporting blasts and heavy exchanges of gunfire, was the heaviest in the capital since a revolt against President Bashar Assad's regime erupted a year ago, he said.
The authorities refer to anti-regime fighters as armed terrorist gangs.

Free Syrians should embrace violent resistance. Non-violent resistance is a sham that never solved anything, even Mahatma Gandhi's India was only won by violent resistance against the British, regardless of the propaganda otherwise.
The fact is, this fight can only be won with bullets. And it will still be a just fight. Assad and those who are supporting this massacre are the bad guys here, and they deserve the same fate that they've dealt out to thousands over the last year.

yes mowaten is right: once extremists take hold of a country it is bad. just look at us in lebanon, once hizbushaitan too k over, our country is now filled with crime and murdor :)

laughable indeed..... as if the current murderous syrian regime headed by bashar and his evil father before him did not bring enough gloomy days to lebanon and STILL is...!!!!! The gloomy days this sectarian thug is referring to are obviously intended for people of his like and the hizb he supports! That is okay by millions of lebanese.......!

mowaten: reality is really a b...h :)
when you will realize the syro/iranians are on the way out, you will realize finally there is nothing more important than to have a real state ruled by real people and not puppets, where the rule of law prevails.

What were the darkest days in the history of Lebanon? The civil war and the Syrian occupation afterwards. A huge part of the damage done to Lebanon throughout those years was done either by the Syrian regime, their allies (PLO and others)or with the Syrian regime's support.
So now we should defend the Syrian regime that occupied and destroyed Lebanon for many years because they will save us from gloomy days? What a joke.

Yeah I know, reminds when the Christians of Aoun, Geagea and Gemayel and the Salafis opposed the Syrian occupation back in the early 2000s, obviously we hate those Christian hiding behind Salafis.
BTW have you figured out who blew up the church in Zouk, you know the one that the Syrian occupation accused the LF of. They used it a pretext to outlaw the party. Hell even their judges could not pin it on them. It was interesting how Adnan and Jamil forgot all about who put the bomb and moved on to something else, but they had managed to get rid of the only remaining Christian group effectively opposing the Syrian complete control.

fierce clashes in syrian capital between security forces and rebels, to me it sounds like the revolt is over and the government is in total control

ya we did care about you. Not our fault you were killing each other 3alhawiyyeh like animals.

The most people in Lebanon were killed either by the Syrian military (crushing of Aoun, Zahle), their supporter (Saiqa and other Palestinians) or with the Syrian blessing (Huzb Allah-Amal war, the war of the camps. Assad the father divided the Lebanese people to conquer them more easily and it succeeded for a long time, but his son could not maintain it and now his son will lose control of the dictator's grip on Syria.
Anyone wondering if the revolution is succeeding should ask themselves one simple question: A year ago did anyone in the world expect a revolution like this to happen in Syria and to last this long despite the military attacks and security crackdowns, arrests and tortures?

On which planet do yo live...Pure peaceful protest are a time of the past...The Syrian regime that you support so blindly kept on killing and torturing protesters until he invited civil war to the door of his presidential palace. Now let them enjoy their civil war!

Syrian you are right
Assad did indeed invite civil war to his doorstep by his constant slaughter of peaceful protesters - and that's what he was betting on.
Yes and you should not care whether some Lebanese or western countries think of the oppostion as being Salafi/Takfiri. What the SNC (Or oppostion) should worry about is that a significant portion of Syrians (Moderate sunni in Damascus & Halab) as well as the majority of Minorities do beleive that the oppostion is Takfiri/Salafi, and that's why the uprising is now 1 year old and only 10% of Syrian army has defected, and barely 1% of diplomatic corp has defected. I beleive the vast majority of Syrians are against Bashar, But they are not with the Opposition, and that's what the opposition should work on.

No! gloomy days are ahead if the Assad Regime wins... thats my opinion though... I hope the Baath and its supporters don't suppress me or try to kill me like they did from recent years past... i.e: reporters, politicians ...

Mouwaten !!!!!
assuming that the salafist ,takfiris etc take power in Syria .
Can they treat the lebanese worse than the way Bashar and his father treated us??
Unless you believe that the 26 years of occupation and slaughter of the lebanese did not happen??
I suggest you stop reading the new history book,it s filling you head with ....

Acerado - Spoken like a true bloodthursty teenager. How old are you -14?
Let me enlighten you, Wars are just a tool - one negociation tool among others - that is used in order to reach a deal. The wise would seek not to use it except as a last resort, and if used they seek not to prolong war, because they know that all the death and destruction that comes along with war are just pure waiste of life, and material.

This can't be true, GMA said that it will be over by next Tuesday and that was over four month ago and he's never ever wrong is he?

I guess all Qaida members are now here in Lebanon & Syria there are being empowered slowly to create chaos n divisions...First Naher el Bared second attempts on the army & the bomb targetting the army school which was stopped..Who knows what they are planning next?!? Hail to the Arab spring!! or Arab spring's hell...

Its clear that violence is increasing. I wonder if this means the peek of the oposition is yet to occur or is the regime finishing off the oposition? One varible to consider would be if the FSA is recieving increasing military aid from some of the Gulf States.

Enough said guys. According to MP Michel Aoun the rebel will be be squashed last year... so nothing more to talk about.

Bubba
The reason why not a lot of people questioned the bombing of the church, is because most beleive Geagea to be capable of such thing...the man's history is filled with such heinous crimes. The Ehden incident, the Chouf treatchery, the Nahr El Mot massacre, Chamoun massacre, etc...and no one beleive that the reason was they wanted to take out the only group effectively opposing the Syrian complete control, because they had already joined the Syrian sponsored government, they probably were taken out because they disagreed with the Syrians on how much of the cake each wanted to keep for themselves.

Except those incidents you mention were in a war and a clear move to grab more power what was the benefit of the church bombing for Geagea? There was zero advantage to be gained which is why it's logical that it was a set up to send him to jail. Yes, Geagea agreed to the Taif, but he later started backtracking and the Syrians decided to get rid of him for a while.

one thing must be very clear for the benefit of bilad el arz:
NOT ALL LEBANESE SHIA ARE HIZBALLAH.
N.B. salafis and wahhabies are from the same stable.

Huzb Allah uses guerrilla tactics why is it wrong when the Syrian revolution uses it? It started as peaceful protests but the regime responded with force and many soldiers left and started the armed revolution what did you expect them to just sit there and get massacred?
The UN charter says it is the right of every person to defend themselves in case of aggression.

bla bla bla.. how was south lebanon freed?? guerilla tactics!! and the syrian people deserve freedom too, i dont think you got it in your head yet that your bashar is a butcher, even hasan nasrala has changed his position from regime fighting conspirators to everyone laying their weapons!! that is a huge admission that there is a real genuine problem in Syria. Your remarks of salafist jihadists bla bla bla is a very racist anti-suni tone. Ba3dein, i thought things were over after the "victory" of bab amr?? chu 3ada ma bada lol?

have you not seen the thousands of videos on youtube of peaceful demonstrations being shot at?!? what planet you come from? are the Syrians supposed to be butchered raped and never shoot back!? then why didnt the south lebanese give the south to israel?! why the sheer hatred and hypocrisy?

Realist
It is not black and white.
Before the last Security Council resolution - the SNC went to Russia to negociate. Russia is also a pragmatist state that wants to safeguard its interest, and would have asked the SNC the safekeeping of its naval base, as well as their preferential arms contract with Syria in return for Russia's support of the oppostion. All the SNC needed to do is accept these terms and Russia would not have blocked the Security Council from issuing a No-Fly Zone resolution.
Question is who pushed SNC not to accept Russian terms - forcing Russia to stick with Bashar, and i.e. prolonging this war.

i really do not think that the SNC has much say on the ground. Think about it. The power of the SNC is eroding every day and being transfered to the FSA. Can the SNC call for a ceasefire? i doubt it. The only way to create such power is for the SNC to start arming the FSA and thus obtain leverage. That is not the case. I also think that the world community would be okay with the new leadership emerging from the military/FSA, they are not interested in democracy for the syrian people after all. Either way, any dramatic change is good for the syrtian people.

Syrian
Hiding your head in the ground won't help your cause.
If that's the opposition's stand - then Good luck - and have fun with in your prolonged civil war.
I will grab my popcorn and follow its episode on TV.

I wish it were not true but Hillary Clinton admited to the BBC that Quaida are helping the Syrian rebels. It's public information now, just google it. MOwaten just owned the whole bunch of posters here. That's reality
