Observatory: Shelling of Yarmuk Camp in Damascus Kills 15 Civilians

Shelling of the Yarmuk Palestinian refugee camp in the Syrian capital killed at least 15 civilians, including two children, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said on Friday.

The watchdog said the mortar shells slammed into the camp, on the southern outskirts of Damascus, on Thursday night, as President Bashar Assad's regime pressed its bid to crush an uprising that erupted almost 17 months ago.

Observatory director Rami Abdel Rahman said the shelling occurred as clashes flared between government troops and opposition fighters in the nearby Damascus neighborhood of Tadamun.

"We demand an international investigation. We do not know the origin of the shelling," Abdel Rahman told Agence France Presse.

The Observatory also reported heavy shelling overnight around Houla, a town in the central province of Homs where at least 108 people were massacred at the end of May, triggering international outrage.

More than 20,000 people have been killed in Syria since the anti-Assad revolt began in March 2011, according to the Observatory.

There is no way to independently verify this figure, while the U.N. has stopped keeping count.

Truthfully speaking does anyone inside Syria really care if Palestinians are killed, it doesn't matter which side the killing comes from.

What kind of stupid question is this? Of course we care. We are not racists like most people here on naharnet. We dont differ between a syrian, palestinian or lebanese. Had you ever been to syria then you would have known that. Many Syrians live inside the refugee camps and many Palewtinians live outside of them, this is because there are no restrications for the refugees like in lebanon, they can build, work, study, get medical care etc and live like a citizen. They help us out and we help them out. We dont just take their money (sent from their relatives abroad) or the money we get feom the UN and then let them be, we actually give them rights. This is because they are more than our brothers and sisters. Whether Muslim, Christian, Druze or Alawites, racism againat our fellow shami people is not an option for us.

Only now after the revolution in syria, some (not all) but some alawites have turned against the Palestinians because palestinians were active in sending food and survival supplies for those of us who were beeing killed and besieged by the shabbi7a and bashars army. They took that a sign of betrayal against the alawites and thus turned against the palestinians for the same reason they now also hate the muslim syrians (and we are the same people as the alawites yet that didnt stop their hate, so of course the palestinians will recieve a share of that racism from the alawiyyi).. That is all. Dont try to make us seem as heartless jerks. We care about the Palestinians like our own and they care the same for us. We see it everyday in front of us so your comment is completly out of line ya phillipo.
