Meqdad Clan: We Cooperated Fully with Army, Security Forces to Maintain Peace

The Meqdad clan hoped on Friday that officials would exert pressure on the concerned sides to speed up resolving the case of the family's kidnapped relative, Hassan, in Syria.
It said in a statement: “We cooperated fully with the army and security forces in order to maintain civil peace, and we therefore hope that the issue will be resolved soon.”
It added: “We stress that the family took its actions in retaliation to Hassan's kidnapping in Syria and it will remain at the core of our actions until his safe return.”
“We urge the president, speaker, and prime minister to take into consideration our motives,” it said.
“The air of optimism that has pervaded the country over the possibility of the release of the Lebanese kidnapped in Syria can be attributed to the family's actions,” stressed the statement.
Hassan al-Meqdad was kidnapped in Syria in August, prompting the clan's military wing to retaliate by abducting a number of Syrian and Turkish nationals in Lebanon.
The army recently conducted raids in Beirut's southern suburbs where the clan is based and where the captives were being held.
The abductees were released and a number of the clan's members were arrested.
