Saniora Says al-Mustaqbal to Make 'Comprehensive' Electoral Proposal

Former Prime Minister Fouad Saniora revealed on Sunday that al-Mustaqbal parliamentary bloc will soon propose a comprehensive draft-law that appeases all factions, mainly Christians.

During a press conference he held at his office in the southern city of Sidon, the head of al-Mustaqbal reiterated that the bloc rejected the so-called Orthodox Gathering proposal and proportionality.

“It is impossible to implement proportionality in the presence of Hizbullah's arms,” he said.

“The bloc will soon make a comprehensive proposal that resolves the fears of Christians and others in a way that it preserves coexistence,” he added.

The four main Christian parties – the Phalange and the Lebanese Forces from the March 14 opposition, and the Free Patriotic Movement and Marada from the March 8 majority alliance – have announced their backing to the Orthodox proposal which calls for a single district and allows each sect to vote for its own MPs in a proportional representation system.

But the proposal has been severely criticized by al-Mustaqbal, the Possessive Socialist Party and March 14 independent Christian politicians for harming the social fabric.

The elections should be held on time based on a law that keeps Lebanon away from dangers, Saniora said.

He hoped that the electoral draft-law would not be used by some parties to dominate others or go against the constitution that is based on the Taef accord.

A positive proposal would be welcome instead of just rejecting other people's proposals.

“It is impossible to implement proportionality in the presence of Hizbullah's arms,” he said.

It's all in the text, there is the alternative, no weapons outside state control and the orthodox gathering will pass (for Mustaqbal.... Jumblatt is another hick up in the equation). can't you read between the lines my friend? :)

Expect a concoction that is comprehensive to al-Mustaqbal al-Mrett, to the low life Jumblat and their gang of kowtowers who tremble when they sense unity among the Christians vis-a-vis restoring their long-robbed rights by the low lives with the help of their then-friends, the Syrian occupiers and who now are becoming the warriors and very creative in fighting those same Syrians from beyond the borders (hello, they were once here crushing our skulls, low lives!) some twenty friggin years LATE. Is this not the qualification for a low life?

Orthodox Proposal wa bass. Don't waste the time of the Lebanese or the Lebanese Christians. We know what is right for the Christians and for all Lebanese to be fairly represented. Your attitude just proves your dictatorial totalitarian attitude. Your days and those of Hariri are over.
