Government Policy Statement Will Stress Justice, Won’t Mention STL
إقرأ هذا الخبر بالعربيةGovernment policy statement discussions over the Special Tribunal for Lebanon may force the committee drafting it to phrase the statement in general terms regarding Lebanon’s commitment to justice and the tribunal itself, an informed source told al-Liwaa newspaper in remarks published on Saturday.
It said that the final statement may serve to appease the majority and opposition.
Two parties of the majority are insisting on dropping any reference to the STL or commitment to U.N. Security Council resolution 1757 on the tribunal, demanding that they be replaced with the adoption of the equation of the army, people, and resistance.
The government of former Prime Minister Saad Hariri had adopted resolution 1757.
The source expected the policy statement to include generalities over justice and not mention the STL by name, and therefore when its indictment is released, the government would not recognize it and “temporarily avoid its fiery repercussions.”
Member of the committee drafting the policy statement, Minister of State Ali Qanso told the pan-Arab daily Asharq al-Awsat in remarks published on Saturday: “The government won’t address the tribunal because the issue does not enjoy Lebanese consensus.”
“We don’t want the statement to mention any issues of contention,” he added.
“It will only stress the need to abide by justice and uncover crimes,” he continued.
“Hasn’t the STL demonstrated that it is politicized?” Qanso asked.
“The tribunal is incapable of achieving justice because it has been transformed into a weapon to harm the Resistance,” he said.
He meanwhile stated that the government will emphasize Lebanon’s commitment to other international resolutions “because all sides support U.N. Security Council resolution 1701.”
“The international community should pressure Israel to commit to it and halt its daily violations of Lebanon’s sovereignty,” he added.
On the cabinet’s position on Hizbullah, Qanso hoped that the Resistance would enjoy unanimous consensus among the Lebanese “given Israel’s constant threat against the country.”
“The policy statement will reiterate support for the equation of the people, army, and Resistance,” he revealed.
The committee drafting the statement is scheduled to hold its second meeting on Tuesday.
Should they follow this path, it will be a path toward international isolation for Lebanon, and render Lebanon a piriah state much like the sponsor of the coup makers who have taken over the government, Syria and Iran.
There is an international consensus over UNRES 1757 as evidenced by the Security Council Resolution. The Republic of Lebanon is committed to seeking justice for the murder of Hariri and 22 others through the mechanism and the vehicle of the STL precisely because those who may have been involved in the assassination might take over the government, as they apparently have.
There is a saying, "whether you believe in God or not, God is."
And so with the STL, whether this coup government recognizes the STL or not, it is and it will follow its legal processes to the end.
stl is coming in tandem with turkish military intervention AND full nato coverage, logistacally and air power, bashar and his regime in syria and his miniregime in lebanon will be annihilated, unless there is intervention from the majestic power from don quichotte el rabieh.
I don't know if it's politicized. But I do know that saying it is is an easy way to discredit it. All they had to do was say it's politicized and voila, it has split a nation.
issuing this kind of stamente, the single what is being doing is, ONE GREETING TO THE FLAG, in other words, TURN THE EYES AND CONTINUE, it would be interesting to see, in the next days, if for all topics pending will recieve the same treatment or not
Its irrelevant to the world community whether the new government mentions the STL in its statement. The STL will prevail supported by the whole world community, with the exception of Syria and Iran of course, and these thugs with bloody hands will be brought to justice. For Hizballah and the Syrian regime, the STL has uncovered them and got them naked. The STL is their nightmare. It terrifies them, and as we are witnessing, they are sticking their heads in the sand thinking that it will go away. Sooooooooo.........
Stay Tuned Lebanon
Friends
I propose to assign to STL the task of questioning Michel Aoun about his threatening statement of giving PM Saad Hariri one way ticket out and never to come back home.
This statement was made right after news came out that PM Hariri was threatened by the Syrian regime and had to stay out of Lebanon.
Pls all of you help me voicing this request.
Ali Qanso????????? Oh my what have we come to... God save Lebanon. The only positive is that his puppet masters in Syria will soon be a thing of the past.
Rami, Michael Aoun is on his last ride and mentally bankrupt.. He substitutes his inferiority complex by making superior statement. He is on his last horrah. The weight of Hizbullah on his back will bring his end literally, which won't be long, no saddle would fit him anymore... Why should the STL be bothered by a muel like him? its ok, let him make noise, he is an enteraining bozo !
So far, he STL can only be mentioned when injustice is mentioned. It will be mentioned together with justice when it will have the courage to say that Israel and the CIA were behind the killing of Rafic and the others.
I am sure the "international community" will treat STL the way they have treated the UN Gaza investigation on War crimes. M14 losers will continue to be losers. Stop trying to give hope to your losing ways.
