Hariri to Aoun: We Gave Army Full Cover and We Wish You Did the Same When Hizbullah Attacked

Former Prime Minister Saad Hariri on Tuesday responded to Free Patriotic Movement leader MP Michel Aoun's accusations of his party supporting gunmen against the military institution, assuring that he gave “full political cover” for the army in its fight in the southern city of Sidon.
"We announced our support for the army in words and in deeds, and gave it full cover to strike with an iron fist anyone who may be tempted to assault the state and threaten national peace,” Hariri said in a released statement.
The FPM leader earlier on Tuesday had held politicians, al-Mustaqbal Movement and “unqualified members” in the army's intelligence responsible for Sidon's clashes, noting that the incident is linked to other “countries and to locals who financed it.”
“Politicians and al-Mustaqbal Movement's neglect have lead to this situation, just like what happened in (the northern city of) Akkar,” Aoun said.
Addressing Aoun, Hariri added: “I wish you had done the same when the army was attacked by your ally Hizbullah in Mar Mikhail, or after the helicopter incident and the martyrdom of Officer Samer Hanna.”
Army 1st Lieutenant Samer Hanna was killed in August 2008 when gunmen opened fire on his helicopter over Sojod hills in south Lebanon.
Investigations revealed that Hanna's shooter is a Hizbullah member.
The al-Mustaqbal Movement head slammed Aoun's “proclamation of an exclusive right to approach the extension of Army Commander Gen. Jean Qahwaji's term.”
“As for your claim of knowing the army and its command better than anyone else, it is doubtful, if we recall the leadership which found that escaping the presidential palace under the pressure of its bombing by the Syrian regime -the present ally and the previous enemy of the General- was the best way to express exemplary command.”
Hariri stressed that “the army is for all the Lebanese, Christians and Muslims.”
“The army command embodies this national concept since the establishment of the military institution, and no political or confessional group has the right to claim monopolizing it,” he elaborated.
Aoun had stressed that extending the term of Qahwaji “must not be the price for the troops' sacrifice in Sidon, explaining that “he does not want to manipulate the military institution's law.”
Aoun added: “We are the ones who should give our opinion regarding the army's chief as per the traditions of appointments and we are the representatives of Christians in the cabinet.”

The Resistance Brigades and Hezbollah will protect a Christian or a Sunni who is being attacked by a dangerous Wahhabi cannibal!
Assir, thank you for further uniting Lebanon against the Wahhabi ideology. Thank you Saudi Arabia and Qatar for helping the Christians, Sunnis, Druze, and Shia come together against Wahhabi cannibals. King Abdullah, your money can not buy you a big civil war in Lebanon. The people of Lebanon are too smart!

Very clear circles I have to admit. Beyond that It can be Elvis and I wouldn't know.

Well why does not ha cooperate with the tribunal and deliver the wanted men? How come Eid and Hassan have been eliminated when they have uncovered hard evidences against Ha?
ft, the truth is that you are so biased and what you allow for your side you refuse it for the other side. Hariri, Bahia and the other m14 leaders they have always said that they are against all illegal weapons. You in M8 are saying no illegal weapons except those of Ha, ansar el mouqawame, tawhid, fplp....
No one is with Asir but the fact that ha and co are freely bearing weapons especially in or close to Sunni areas far away from the zones of confrontation with Israel then we will have two things :
- Resentment from the Sunni against the Shia and the authorities in Lebanon
- another Asir, salsa fist or non salafist

A Christian or a Sunni or a Shiite or an atheist should be protected by the police and the army and not by illegal militias.

Addressing Aoun, Hariri added: “I wish you had done the same when the army was attacked by your ally Hizbullah in Mar Mikhail, or after the helicopter incident and the martyrdom of Officer Samer Hanna

SHIA SCUM

What does this wahabi puppet spoiled brat know about Lebanon and its honorable Army? He should go back and play in his sandbox and leave the running of the nation to the men.

Thank you danceexper for that lovely speech.. However, it is time that Hezbullah surrenders their weapons to the Lebanese army or integrate i to it... Enough crap...

What is the difference between Asir and Aoun?? Asir wears a black skirt when he runs and leaves his followers behind, where as Aoun wears a colorful pajama when he runs and leaves his followers behind.. Amazing two clowns.. really!!

It's been the same people spreading terror for years. Rafic Hariri fixes the country towards independence vis-a-vis Syria and becomes stronger, Bachar breaks his wrist. HA dynamites him.
Wissam al Hassan gathers evidence against Nasrallah and Bachar... bis repetita.
Anyone who speaks against his holiness, the omnipotent, the absolute being, known as the Sayyed Nasrallah or his owner in Syria gets dead. A promising politician such as Pierre Gemayel is forever gone thanks to them.
My thoughts are for George Hawi, Samir Kassir, Bassel Fleihan, Gebran Tueni,Walid Eido, Antoine Ghanem, Wissam Eid, and the dozens of innocent citizens killed at the same time.

unrelated to the article, but :
Why was Pierre Gemayel (R.I.P) a promising politician ?
He studied law and not politics.
At 28 he was elected as an MP of our country due to his dad's influence.
At 33 he was appointed for minister of industry of our country due to his dad's alliances.
What were his real credentials ? What legacy did he leave in any of his tenures ?
Does the fact that you're born in a family of politicians automatically qualify you for a 'promising' political role ?
Does opposing an occupier automatically qualify you to become 'promising' ? Many opposed Syria's occupation. This is not a qualification. It's a minimum expectation from someone who loves their country a bit
Wake up.

Cause Hezbollah would kill him like they killed his dad and wesam Hassan and others, in case you were on mars for the past few years lol

They hate asir, they hate hariri, what the hell do they want?? For sunis to convert to she3ism to make them happy lol? Lik fahmuna chu badkun 3al mazbut?? Yuki never succeeded in history, fatimyeen failed and so will you, enjoy your temporary point scoring, it is temporary. At the end ma bsi7 ila sa7i7

They want the leaders you assassinated. Anytime they had a strong leader he was killed, so yeah it's justified that they don't want Asir or Harriri, nor do they want a leader you force down their throats.

formerlebaniz, i think you missunderstood realist. I think he was asking the hezbis and m8 that question.
Not even mikati who was handpicked by them was good enough so who do they want exactly? only a puppet willing to say how high when they say jump it seems.

FT the situation is evolving as a persecution of Sunni in Lebanon at the hand of Ha supported by the aounist and the army. Apart from empty zero evidence accusations Hariri and Bahia and the other Sunni moderate leaders have nowrong doing against the nation. Yet treason accusations are running high and the Sunni are being persecuted and are in fact treated unjustly on this country.
Of course no one is with Asir but it cannot be accepted that the army does the job with the help of Ha. Why so? Because Ha is not an authority and it is part of the problem that led to Asir by having affiliated militias taking to the street of Sidon and tripoli.

Talking about proofs. Well the international tribunal seems to have a lot of proofs and on these basis 4 HIzbullahi are wanted. HA won't deliver. Same for the guy trying to plant a bomb to kill Boutros Harb. What about the mobile nrs uncovered by Eid and suspected in being evolved in the assassination of Hariri. They were located in the hospital Rasoul el A3zam.

wolf, why don't you try to feel Hariri and found out yourself... :)

I have a feeling things are going different than many are anticipating. I am starting to think that Asir was only the beginning to what is yet to come. Fact is that Asir is an idiot and he played into Hizbullah's hands. I have a feeling Hizbullah and Syria are trying to divert attention from what is happening in Syria into Lebanon, and if I am right you will see more instigations, you will see more threatening and actions.
Most likely you will see people being killed or taken by the police for being Asir supporters and had nothing to do with him or they might have supported him verbally but without any actions... this will invoke more actions from the Sunni communities and more fighting will happen.
I hope I am wrong.

formerlebaniz, I doubt this is going to happen... let them enjoy their little acchievmnet for now in Qusayr and in Lebanon... Very soon Allepo battle will begin and Bachar and his low life supporters will come to a rude awakening... Soon things will change. I don't think they will have time to plan things in Lebanon, as things are going to get much worse for Bachar very soon.. The weapons for the rebels are coming as we speak...

Ft I can see that you are wishing that the Syrian regime wins the battle against the rebellion. This very regime that has been red handedly fought in preparing with Samaha a campaign of bombing in Akkar.
Actually you seems to be a sunni hater so anything against them is Halal. Well unfortunately it is this attitude that is talking this country into strife as all communities need to live side by side in respect and justice. Otherwise this country will continue to see unrests.

For a man (Hariri) who hates the Assad family, in all his images he has the same strategy ( standing in front of his fathers big image. Come on get a life and a personality.

Zahle_nights, notice how the fight for Aleppo has been hit by delays? There has been a sudden halt in the progress of Hizbullah and the Assad militia in Syria, right after several countries decided to arm the rebels. Than we heard this whole assir thing and there has been reports of increased use of chemical weapons in Syria. Something is brewing for sure and this looks plausible especially how they tried this game before and it was thwarted.

"There has been a sudden halt in the progress of Hizbullah and the Assad militia in Syria, right after several countries decided to arm the rebels." Yes actually it makes you wonder because they were planning Allepo battle right after qusayr...

Bachar is going to vanish (Asir-style or Saddam-style), it's a matter of time. whoever denies this is lying to himself. you can't kill 100.000 and remain in power, not in 2013.

I really thought so my self too.. I thought humanity has developed beyond us watching 100,000 "recorded" dead and look the other way, but obviously I was wrong. Anytime, when I heard about the atrocities committed in late 20th century I said well that's back than things like that won't be allowed in our day and age... yeah not so true. National strategic interests are still more important than 100,000 lives and countries like Russia and Iran find that MUCH more important than all the death and destruction.

I'm so disgusted by everyone... the West watching, Iran and Russia supporting the mass murders, the Gulf countries arming the wrong people.... yalla, hopefully Tamim got Holland's message 5/5 yesterday in Doha. the French surreptitiously asked the FSA to retake the zones controlled by Al Nusra.

Is asirs mother alive? Im would love to hear her opinion on her son considering that his mother is shiite.

awireless; wow what a tyrant... he must've also had control over parliament opened it and closed it as he pleased, put in a puppet prime minister against the will of the sect responsible for that seat, killed whom he opposed even his father and ISF information head Wissam Hassan when he foiled the perpetrator of the assassinations of political leaders. He also put in his son as a minister shoved him down the throat of the Lebanese society, marginalized an ENTIRE Lebanese community and party in a one-colored government... he's a dictator... I hope your mom still helps you with your body functions obviously you still need diapers.

best of luck to your mom and "wo bil shifa"
Yes, when you post comments like this you are either insulting your intelligence or insulting ours by stating these untrue accusations.

I think Lebanese politics should be conducted in this method an open forum with certain anonymities involved, this will decrease the assassinations on Lebanese politicians who all happen to be from ONE side what a STRANGE coincidence...

These ongoing humiliations of the Sunni in Lebanon are going to lead to two things:
1) Radicalisation
2) Naturalisation of Palestinians.
If Aoun (the Christian... at least on his ID) can't see this coming, then he is a poor military man.
It may take years, but it will happen. Guess who will be happy? ISRAEL!
Nasrallah = Bachar = Natanyahou

Sorry bud I hate to burst your bubble but neither is going to happen to the extent of damaging the interests of those tyrants.
1) Radicalization: They are BANKING on that, The western world will freak out when they hear about Radical Sunni's... and they are hoping to be given the green light than to start a massacre in Tripoli or Sidon. Why do you think they parade Al Nusra and other radicals in Syria? To get the narrow minded people on their side.
2) Who's going to approve the Naturalization of Palestinians? When was the last time M14 was able to pass a law? ANY LAW?

The ONLY solution I see anywhere is the direct and STRONG intervention of the GCC to counter balance the Iranian/Syrian axis. The US and EU don't want to touch this with a 10ft poll, if for 2 years the Syrian people are being slaughtered and they haven't moved a finger I highly doubt they will do anything to stop that from happening in Lebanon especially if Hizbullah/Aoun played their cards right and got the Sunnis in Lebanon labeled as extremists.

True True True, but there is a but:
Primo /
we have an illegitimate parliament and government
Deuzio /
injustice won't remain as they are for very long, a lot of things happens in times of war. Deals are cut under the table. Christians could get long term compensation if such a thing would ever happen.
basically, i'm just saying that NOTHING is impossible and it's up the shiites to rise up.... because the path lebanon will follow is only up to them in the short term.

benzona,
Shiites and Aounists will not realize the wrongs of their ways as long as they are on top that's the nature of humanity my friend. If we are looking at the long-term result what will happen is the Shiites in Lebanon will rise to power dwarfing the Sunnis and marginalizing the M14 Christians and Druze until they play their game. Than one day Shiites will start noticing the wrongs of their ways and maybe one day they'll revolt, but that's not for another 10-20 years.
Else than that what else can be done really? The biggest "hope" is fall of Assad that will change the cards.

Mentalities don't change in Lebanon... . Alliances are done and undone... the dynasties of politicians remain. Outlaws who thought they could remain above the State come and go... We had the palestinians, the christians, the druze and today we have the shia. It's also a matter of time... but the problem is the people. Actually, the expats could bring much more to Lebanon than just money, but it would harm the warlords... that's why they get very little representation in the illegitimate parliament.

As sad as it is since there are generations of Palestinians who were born in Lebanon and never knew a home else than Lebanon, it's IMPOSSIBLE to pass a naturalization bill in the current situation. I sympathize with the Palestinians and hope one day they will be able to return to Palestine, but lets face the truth and stop dreaming of Lala land the likelihood of that happening is slim to none and one day we will have to deal with this.

frankly, I don't know a single lebanese abroad (not residing in the Gulf) dreaming of returning to lebanon. not even in their old age. Vacation is a maxxx!

benzona, I haven't visited Lebanon in years even though I have family there and I miss them dearly.
But there will be a lot of Lebanese that will be forced back to Lebanon soon :)

hahahaha FormerLebaniz, good one! indeed. I hope they saved enough $$$ because they're going to have to build a lot to accommodate them. They saw this coming... btw, that's why they've been buying lots of lands for the past 3-4 years.

Hahaha I love it how benzona's comment of him hoping I still talk to my family on Skype got a thumbs down!

I hope he does one less person to assassinate and who knows the amount of innocent bystanders they will kill along the way...

Hariri claimed the army was "heavy handed" in response to assir! He and his aunty have blamed Hezbollah and army bias as justification to the army attacks. The mustaqbul mps in tripoli and akkar have constantly verbally attacked and denounced the laf!
If Aoun ran away when the presidential palace was being stormed in 1990 and bombed by Syria warplanes, what's your excuse for running? Running out of money?

I don't pay attention to Hariri, he lost his credibility long time ago! Let's keep him in Saudi Arabia (his master) where he belongs.

so sick of hariri and aoun, m8 and m14. can't wait till the next elections so we can vote this filth out of office

I stopped paying attention to this guy long time ago! All hollow talk.

“As for your claim of knowing the army and its command better than anyone else, it is doubtful, if we recall the leadership which found that escaping the presidential palace under the pressure of its bombing by the Syrian regime -the present ally and the previous enemy of the General- was the best way to express exemplary command.”... Best statement ever made, in response to the Lunatic ex-genarals rantings!

NostraGabbyMarch14, if you remember, the Syrians un-pajamad you friends for over 15 sweet years and sat in their laps, warrior, while your friends were having a ball, warriors, if you know what I mean. I am sure this is something you successfully... well... umm... duh... could not predict? Keep them predictions coming.
