MP Hariri: We Will Not Relinquish our Right to Find out Whole Truth in Sidon Clashes
إقرأ هذا الخبر بالعربيةMustaqbal MP Bahia Hariri stressed on Saturday the people's right to turn to the judiciary in order to apprehend assailants involved in the recent clashes in the southern city of Sidon.
She declared from the northern city of Tripoli: “We will not relinquish our right to find out the whole truth in the unrest.”
The assailants, regardless of their affiliations, will be pursued, she stated.
“We will resort to the judiciary whenever the people sense that they have been humiliated under the state's supervision,” she added.
“We will not allow the state to abandon its responsibilities towards the people,” Hariri continued.
Eighteen soldiers were killed and 50 wounded in clashes between the army and supporters of Salafist cleric Sheikh Ahmed al-Asir in Sidon on June 22 and 23.
More than 20 of al-Asir's supporters were killed, according to a security official.
Dozens of them were also arrested, but there was no sign of the cleric.
A number of officials and eyewitnesses had claimed that Hizbullah fighters were involved in the clashes.
no, she's implying that since the facts are so blatantly clear that assir was a fanatical freak about to become a terrorist gang leader (unless the hundreds of kilos of explosives found in his mosque were to feed the orphans in addition to the usual milk and blankets) that they now need to insinuate there was some dark secret to the story.
they can't even come up with a cover up story that sticks, so they go for the "dark secret they need to uncover".
and anyway that campaign against HA and the army doesnt even make sense.
even if those extremist salafi hatemongers happened for once in their lives to not be lying, it would mean that HA helped the army and showed solidarity with it. so what? better to be like assir and shoot at the army? sounds like m14 respect more those who shoot at the army than those who stand by it. weird but we never expected any better from them.

I wa appauled by the above link :

what is your opinion about it?
yea it's a pretty sad video, i'm appalled mainly by the fact the guy is still alive.
assir's scumbags who slaughtered our soldiers arent worth the air they breathe.
worse than abu ghreib.
this is the army of Lebanon or ...?
if anyone dares to defend the actions of such a bunch of thugs then you have no idea what a real army is. this is the army of hizbushaitan.
@the1phoenix: It is easy to throw accusations when it seems you don't have the slightest idea about the dynamics in the Sunni community. You imply that Bahia Harriri was financing Shaker Absi and was behind AL Madina Bank. These are serious issues and wish you would provide facts other than pure "sectarian" street conjecture! Prior to the sad turn of events in Saida, do you see anything wrong with an MP meeting with Assir or other groups in her city in her efforts to diffuse tensions, or that in your fair opinion implicates her in whatever happened in the end? I can easily throw accusations at every political party or figure without any substantiation, but i refrain. I ask you to be more objective than what your post indicates. My family has business ties with the Murrs and if you recall who was the minister of defense during the Absi ordeal. I can tell you from personal knowledge that your accusations are not even remotely close to the truth.
Wow..... I was not addressing you in the first place. It seems you are a lunatic loose canon. Scary.... I feel sorry for you!
thephoenix.... do not bother trying to engage with "the1phoenix" or with "flamethrower", they are both paid propagandists who are here simply to promote the pro-Iranian agenda. "the1phoenix" always make empty accusations against M14 leaders without any proof.
Yes 1phoenix, I have no proof you are a paid propagandist, just like you have no proof Hariri was financing Shaker al Absi, nor Fatah Al Islam, nor was behind the Al Medinah Bank scandal.
You annoy me even more than the idiots Taqiya Thrower and Mo-rotten, since you claim to be so unbiased yet you are obviously so biased.
You were quick to criticize Geagea on the same day of Sidon clashes, simply because he had not yet spoken against Asir, but you didn't criticize others for same. Geagea by the way spoke against Asir the very next day.
Your ignorance of the realities of the Syrian civil war is astounding, and your apparent support for Assad (by default) after the atrocities committed by him and his father defies all logic.
Where is your outrage over the killing of Hariri, Gemayel, Tueni, Kassir, Hawi, Eid, Al Hassan, Eido, Ghanem and others??????
@the1phoenix: for your information, I have had my screen name for more than 3 years, and i am real. I am disappointed in your answer as you shifted your answer to the war in Syria. What is happening in Syria is more than a disaster. I was asking you how do you make such claims about Bahia without substantiation. You did not offer me any proof excepet that is a known fact. Thank you for a civilized debate.
@the1phoenix
Many on this site, myself included, enjoy your postings even when we don't agree with them 100% sometimes. Opinion is always appreciated even encouraged I say. Specific accusations on the other hands should always be backed up by some credible evidence. I have no special feelings towards the Hariris but am finding it hard to accept the accusations you leveled. At least the ones relating to Nahr El Bared. It was an M14 government under Hariri's leadership that enabled the army to win that fight. If memory serves, and I think you will agree, it was directly the result of some khaleeji government's supplying amo to our army that ended up making the difference and giving our army the edge.
In all, I respect your views and the fact that you refrain from engaging in insults and demagoguery as some commentators here do on regular basis. Can't wait for some proof to back up your assertions about Bahia Hariri please.
Lebnanfirst... If u research nahr bard ull see the harriris played a shady role. There's some proof that the harriris were financing Fatah Islam to fight hizballah if need be. That's y they are accused now with assir.
@beirutbastard00
Ok, I am open minded give me on link as I was not able to google any proof on my own.

I just did a quick google search for "hariri links to Fatah Islam".... I opened a couple of the first pages, those aren't the ones I read a long time ago, but I'm sure if ur interested enough u can do more thorough search.
Anyway, both of those links talk about nahr barid in detail. The first one links the harriris to Fatah Islam, while the second article says there is only proof linking Bahia to jund il sham.
If u do search on ur own, and find something that contradicts those theories plz let me kno.
BeirutBastard00, I agree with you on certain things but not on the web sites you posted. The first one is simply a "blog", not a legitimate media outlet. Blogs are not subject to oversight and fact checking. Anyone can write whatever they want in a blog, and this does not in any way qualify as proof of anything. Reading this blog shows a clear bias against M14 politicians.
The second web site states "there is little direct evidence of explicit funding of armed Sunni Islamist groups".
Again, I repeat there is no proof of Hariri financing al Absi or Fatah al Islam.
Actually ur right. I searched for about two hours, reading many articles, none have any direct evidence of harriri funding Fatah Islam.
The allegations first came from Fisk, then later it was carried by Seymour hersh. Neither showed any documents to prove anything.
Like most things in Lebanon wel never know I guess. All we have are rumors. But I will say one thing, someone funded this Sunni group, trained it, gave it political cover, and then helped them escape from prison.
@beirutbastard00
Thanks for the links. My response to them is same as that provided by @people-power.
I spent some time researching Fateh Al Islam and Nahr El Bared incident. Following are some links from my research:
http://vkb.isvg.org/Wiki/Groups/Fatah_Al-Islam
http://www.brookings.edu/research/articles/2007/11/28-terrorism-saab

The last link provided the most comprehensive study of the group. You will need to jump through some hoops to get the full PDF to read but the effort is well worth it.
The first link provides a quick executive summary and directly discusses financing the group in one short paragraph.
While the Hariris may have dabbled some in support of extremist Sunni elements to counter HA, mere speculation at this point but reasonable speculation none the less, it remains speculation without concrete evidence. That is the conclusion I reached.
@the1phoenix
Thanks for the response my friend. You make your work sound mysterious. One hopes some day you will be able to share some more information with the rest of us.
I enjoy your postings mostly because I sense they come straight from the heart of a true Lebanese that has experienced the horrors of civil war first hand and who is sincere in avoiding. Repeat at all cost.
Like I said, I haven't special attachment to the Hariris and it is reasonable to speculate that they may have attempted to use Sunni extremism to counter HA extremism. That though remains in the realm of realistic speculation but speculation none the less barring concrete evidence to the contrary.
It s late and I am tired since this s the only time that I can spend doing research. Stay well and keep the comments coming.
HA has its place in starting problems, I don't think this is one of them. I do not doubt they lived in apartments in the Sidon area, but they did not shoot at the army. No doubt it was Asir and his Palestinian buddys. We all know the Palestinians have a habit of shooting at our army, and harboring nut jobs. This is not an HA set up. This is Asir and certain elements in the Mustaqbal making the army look one sided. The army except for maybe the excessive force on one of the suspects was 100% in the right in how they responded to the Abra incident. The only issue is the fact that Sunni don't like Shiites having more guns than them, which most of us understand. HA needs to disarm and fall under the army.
Yah sit Bahia I m sure that you are a respected MP, I certainly agree with you in finding out the truth concerning the clashes between Assir the rat & his followers' who are as blind as bats.
The investigation should start with you , you have been quiet up until these terrible events, since you're a public servant we the majority of Lebanese hold you accountable. Since this puppet disappeared it seems that you don't have sympathy for our fallen Soldiers' , but instead you are carrying on the mission of this demented demon that you have created & supported. In due time the truth will be known but don't travel around Lebanon stirring strife with misleading information , but instead pay your respects to our LAF Martyrs killed by these Murderers'.
She did pay her respects to the army more than you do! you all seem to be a bunch of hypocrites throwing accusations without substance based on your biases. It is a mistake to comment on this site..... what a country... a bleak future awaits all of you!
The real two faced, hypocrite is your protégé, Bahia, dear Phoenix.
I mean, how can one be so blind?
She is fakely 'mourning' the army loss while doing everything to tarnish its image and launch what? an investigation to find out what happened? Come on! Who does she think she is, her, her so called Arab Spring & her Assirs.
I think she didnt look at what is happening to Egypt. The PEOPLE dont want to live under Islamist rule. And in Egypt, the Sunnis are a majority. Moderate Sunnis took to the streets to oust an Islamist President. Can Lebanese extremist Sunnis and Mustahbel leaders still remain sectarian in their rhetoric?
It is the plan of HA to muddy the picture of the LAF as much as possible because it is the only institution left that stand between them and welayat el-faqih. So we need to make sure the LAF is not implicated by their tricks and infiltrations.
HA created Asir, and HA initiated the battle between the Asir and the LAF. The torture/killing video was also carried by HA members of the army and was taken and distributed on purpose to discredit the army in the eyes of the good Lebanese so that they can chip at the LAF until they become totally subservient to HA.
Just the opposite of you ft., you always present solid facts and try to market them as your personal opinion. :)
And what's more... I am seeing more and more LF and KT seeing thru the malevolent behavior of Future & Co. Many are turning away from them.
@freemind
I think you are correct in your observations. At the same time it is also true that General Aoun himself and M8 Christians In general are also beginning to see the true co,ors of HA and their malevolent behavior as well and are slowly trying to steer away.
The political landscape in Lebanon and the whole region is on the verge of major changes. One hopes that said changes do not end up costing us our stability, lives and freedom.
very true. i dont see why i get thumbed down for giving correct observations though :P
People on this site are either blind or totally brainwashed...
THis is exactly what your idol Asaad gave us the Lebanese: Peace and Prosperity. Go join your Shabiha please so peace and prosperity is bestowed on all the alawites.
always amazed at christians that have been living with muslims for centuries and dont have a clue what salafis, wahabis ect really is...
Hatred begins with ignorance they say...
