Gemayel Slams Raad over Baabda Declaration Remarks

Phlanage Party MP Sami Gemayel criticized on Thursday Hizbullah MP Mohammed Raad's statements regarding the Baabda Declaration.

“Those who signed the Baabda Declaration then describe it merely as ink on paper consider that the Lebanese who are dying in Syria are only ink on paper,” Gemayel said in a tweet.

In June 2012, a national dialogue session approved the Baabda Declaration that demands that Lebanon disassociate itself from regional conflicts.

On Wednesday, Raad considered that the Baabda Declaration “was born dead,” accusing political factions in the country of “hindering the commitment to national agreements.”

“The Baabda Declaration, for example, was born dead because our political foes used their weapons and ports to transport arms to meddle in regional affairs,” he said.

Raad pointed out that "all what is left from the Baabda Declaration is ink on paper.”

Although Lebanon is officially neutral in Syria's war, it is split over the revolt against President Bashar Assad.

Hizbullah has openly sent fighters to battle alongside the Syrian regime against rebels trying to overthrow Assad.

But many Sunnis back the Sunni-led Syrian opposition.

@theRoaringflame: truth hurt and gets you to insult politicians, post 2000 after the Israeli withdrawal your Shia militia argued about a Syrian sheb3a to continue getting armed from Syria/Iran hence the famous 2006 so you are the last to open your mouth when speaking about undermine the state and Baabda

The bottom line is this: Baabda declaration was born dead. Period. Now go back to your usual crying, loud-mouthing and self-flagellation.

I don't get why people bother discussing the Baabda declaration.

One party sent money, arms, and random volunteer fighters at the start of the declaration.

Another party sent organized fighters later.

Now the side that is losing is crying foul. Cry me a river.

I never liked the word "3ammo" for father in law. Is there no other word like "hameto" for a man?

You can always refer to GMSchmuck as "tante".

This guy and his cousin represent the future of a free Lebanon. Hope politics does not change them. Hope they'll think lebanese rather than christian...

To be honest I dont know the way they really think, but the way Sami speaks of unity and coexistence, I recognize my hopes in his words and I'm sunni. Wa Laho A3lam.

Kataeb are the party of choice for the majority of Christians living in Beirut, and in particular Achrafiye. Once again you show that you have no idea what you are talking about. Go play with some dingo's, Aussie boy.

Agree 100% with cheikh Sami. Gemayels are patriots and paid more than their fair share in the service of Lebanon.
But I wish there was a way we could get HA, those weapons lovers, adventurer milicia start playing by the rules. What will it take? assad's downfall? Iran's bankruptcy? a civil war? When can we get the party of iran to loosen its grip on lebanon's bullying?

what m8 fails to comprehend is that it is clear for all true Lebanese that once more hizbushaitan is reverting on agreements.
their word means nothing and they are not shy to admit it.
how can anyone trust what they say?

@ roar : " HA will never forget the Christians who housed & fed their people during the 2006 war. "

Well they forgot the way Lebanese sunnis housed and fed them, the way syrians sunnis housed and fed them in 2006. They forgot the way palestinians helped them. HA doesnt know gratitude, they do what Khamenei tell them to do.
Btw, in politics there is no servants, some act for their sect, others for their personal interests, others for foreign powers and very few for their country...
