Former Progressive Socialist Party leader Walid Jumblat said Monday he would support the ongoing diplomatic efforts and the framework agreement if and only if they lead to an Israeli withdrawal from south Lebanon.

Jumblat told reporters after he met with President Joseph Aoun in Baabda that he would back Lebanon's negotiations with Israel "if they lead to a gradual or complete withdrawal" and a border demarcation.

U.S. President Donald Trump has said that it was an “honor” to him to welcome President Joseph Aoun to the White House for a “truly historic visit,” the Lebanese presidency said on Monday, citing a letter sent by Trump.

Free Patriotic Movement chief Gebran Bassil has said that he distinguishes between the FPM’s position, Hezbollah's position, and the government's position regarding the talks with Israel.

“We do not refuse negotiation, but we want something in return. They (ruling authorities) depicted to the Lebanese that there is a major achievement, but what has actually been achieved is the destruction of the country rather than (Israeli) withdrawal,” Bassil said in an interview on Al-Jadeed TV, referring to the framework agreement between Lebanon and Israel.

Hezbollah lawmaker Hassan Fadlallah questioned the President’s ability to succeed after creating what he termed a "deep rift" with a significant segment of the Lebanese public.

Fadlallah accused President Joseph Aoun of breaking core commitments he made to Hezbollah before his election.

The Israeli army struck overnight into Monday Kfartebnit, Deir Seryan, Baraashit, Ali al-Taher and Wadi Zebqine while artillery shelled al-Mansouri, Nabatieh al-Fawqa, Zawtar al-Sharqiyeh, Beit Leef, Wadi Slouqi, Touline, Hadatha, Baraashit, Majdalzoun, Kounine and Mayfadoun.

Israeli forces carried out massive detonations in Baraashit and Ainata, dropped flare bombs on Zawtar al-Sharqiyeh, Markaba, Houla, and Hadatha, and opened heavy machine-gun fire towards the towns of Sarbine and Haddatha, as well as the outskirts of Mays al-Jabal, Wadi Slouqi, and Wadi Zebqine.

Beneath the Mediterranean waters off the southern Lebanese city of Tyre, divers swim past stone walls, ancient structures and a submerged road — remnants of parts of a city that once stood above the water.

With a shaky ceasefire in place after the latest Israel-Hezbollah war, visitors are returning to Tyre, a city known for its Roman ruins and its much older Phoenician history. Diving operators say interest in the underwater archaeological sites is increasing, though the number of visitors remains below prewar levels.

Hezbollah Secretary-General Sheikh Naim Qassem has stressed that "resistance is the only path to liberating the land and all other ways are a waste of time."

"We have directly experienced the path of resistance in Lebanon and found that it liberates both the land and the people," said Qassem during a ceremony organized by a Pakistani students organization.

The Israeli army said Saturday that it struck Hezbollah infrastructure in south Lebanon after two Israeli soldiers were lightly injured when a Hezbollah explosive device detonated under a military bulldozer in the so-called security zone.

Israeli forces has set fire to a government hospital in the southern border town of Mays al-Jabal, inside Israel's self-declared security zone, Lebanon's National News Agency said.

Lebanon's health ministry meanwhile condemned the act as a "barbaric crime."

Lebanon, through its negotiating delegation, is currently considering incorporating the Ali al-Taher hills and surrounding towns into an expansion of the first pilot zone, a Western diplomatic source told Asharq al-Awsat newspaper.

The proposal entails establishing an international observation post there --backed by the United States -- alongside the deployment of the Lebanese Army, with the U.S.-led Military Technical Committee for Lebanon (MTC4L) playing a key role in verifying the Lebanese Army's control over the area, the source added.
