Afghan Taliban Condemn Pakistan School Attack

The Afghan Taliban have condemned a raid on a school in neighboring Pakistan that left 141 dead in the country's bloodiest ever terror attack, saying killing innocent children was against Islam.

Survivors said militants gunned down children as young as 12 during the eight-hour onslaught in the northwestern city of Peshawar, which the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) said was revenge for a major military offensive in the region.

Officials: Suicide Bomber Kills Five in NW Pakistan

A suicide bomber blew himself up in a peace committee meeting in a restive Pakistani tribal area on Wednesday, killing at least five people and wounding seven others, officials said.

The bombing took place in Pir Mela village of the restive Khyber tribal district, some 100 kilometers (60 miles) southwest of Peshawar.

Pakistan Helicopters Pound Rebel Hideouts, Killing 30

Pakistani helicopter gunships pounded militant targets in the country's northwest Saturday, killing up to 30 rebels, as the number of civilians fleeing an expected ground offensive passed 200,000.

The military said 30 insurgents were killed in targeted air strikes early Saturday in Khyber and North Waziristan Agencies, semi-autonomous tribal regions on the Afghan border which are an important base for the Pakistani Taliban.

Suicide Blast Kills One in Northwest Pakistan

A suicide bomb attack at the residence of an anti-Taliban peace militia in the restive northwestern city of Peshawar left one dead and five others injured late Thursday, police said.

The incident took place in the Matan Adezai area of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa city and targeted the leader of an anti-insurgent group, senior police official Najeeb U Rehman told Agence France Presse.

Unknown gunmen shot dead a popular female singer in the northwestern Pakistani city of Peshawar in the latest attack against women artists, officials said Thursday.

Gulnar, 38, famous under her performing name Muskan, was shot by four gunmen who barged into her house on Wednesday. She died in hospital.

Gunmen Kill Two Teachers in Pakistan Sectarian Flashpoint

Gunmen on Tuesday killed two schoolteachers -- one Sunni Muslim, one Shiite -- in a northwestern Pakistani town with a history of sectarian violence, police said.

The double murder came in the Sunni-dominated town of Hangu, around 60 kilometres (40 miles) southwest of Peshawar, the main city of the northwest, as the teachers were going to the government high school where they worked.
