The head of the Mustaqbal parliamentary bloc MP Fouad Saniora has received warnings from regional and western powers urging him to be wary of plots to assassinate him “in order to create strife in Lebanon,” reported the daily An Nahar on Sunday.

Sources from the former premier told the daily that the information was received from powers that enjoy logistic and security capabilities.

The Lebanese Forces announced on Wednesday the nomination of Dr. Fadi Abdallah Karam, the former chairman of Tripoli’s dentists’ syndicate, to run in the parliamentary by-election in Koura after the death of MP Farid Habib.

LF leader Samir Geagea held a press conference in Maarab to announce the “unanimous nomination of comrade Dr. Fadi Abdallah Karam to contest the by-election for the vacant seat of Koura after the death of our comrade Farid Habib.”

Free Patriotic Movement leader MP Michel Aoun on Tuesday voiced his satisfaction with the national dialogue session held earlier in the day at the presidential palace, noting that “from now on, every person will be held responsible for obstructing the implementation of the principles,” in reference to the Declaration of Principles agreed by the members of the national dialogue committee.

In an interview on his movement’s mouthpiece OTV, Aoun said a “major responsibility” falls on the Lebanese leaders to ensure the implementation of the endorsed resolutions.

The Lebanese foes seeking an accord at a new national dialogue session expressed optimism on Monday as they voiced hope that the all-party talks would have a positive impact on the country, local newspapers reported.

Phalange party leader Amin Gemayel told As Safir newspaper that he will be open to all suggestions during session at the Baabda Palace, noting that the Lebanese leaders should be ready to resolve all the crises Lebanon is suffering from.

The national dialogue resumed its sessions on Monday “amid positive talks” with gatherers agreeing on committing to international resolutions and controlling Lebanon’s border.

The concluding statement said: “We reject the formation of a buffer zone with Syria and the use of Lebanon as an open ground for smuggling arms to Syria.”

Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea on Sunday described the national dialogue conference that will be held on Monday at the Baabda Palace as a “waste of time,” noting that “dialogue is a trap because the current government is responsible for this bad situation.”

Earlier this week, the LF announced that it will not take part in the talks despite the participation of its allies in the March 14 camp.

Marada Movement leader MP Suleiman Franjieh stated that he understands how Hizbullah chief Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah would send a representative to the national dialogue on Monday out of security fears, adding however he does not understand how others would want to follow suit, reported As Safir newspaper on Saturday.

He told the newspaper: “If Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea wants to send a representative for security reasons, then we will do the same.”

Condolences over the death of the “Dean of Journalists” in Lebanon Ghassan Tueni continued to pour in on Friday and Saturday with French President Francois Hollande expressing his “great” sorrow over his passing.

He said in a statement: “Despite all the tragedy that struck his family, he remained a free man who was committed to serving Lebanon.”

A March 14 opposition delegation is expected on Saturday to deliver President Michel Suleiman a memo on its stance on the national dialogue that is set to be held at Baabda Palace next week, An Nahar daily reported on Friday.

Sources close to al-Mustaqbal bloc leader Fouad Saniora told the newspaper that a parliamentary delegation will present Suleiman with the memo and later hold a press conference to announce its details.

Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea stressed on Wednesday that the March 14 camp insists on holding the 2013 parliamentary elections on time.

He said before an LF delegation: “Hizbullah will do all it can to prevent the staging of the elections.”
