if for once, just once in the very long history of israeli aggressions against our people, the UN takes firm and effective measures to defend our rights, then i might consider trusting them
but reality is UN will delay, gain time while israel pumps and provokes, and then try to lose us in an imbroglio of procedural formalities to end up saying it's not their jurisdiction, or to make some sort of weak resolution and let the US veto it for their israeli puppies.
at this point, i'll be glad to see Hezbollah missiles taking out the offshore platforms, out after the other.
well they got released didnt they? that's what matters.
and if for once foreign meddling created a positive outcome, then, just for that once, i'll support it
my fifty cents on this is that it had nothing to do with lebanon, it was foreign intelligence services fighting some sort of behind the scenes war. god knows who gave what to whom in order to have them released
al-Liwaa showed us here why some people should never be in politics.
If someone really thinks Finance and Electricity are not part of Lebanese's daily concerns, or really believes that we solve the problem of "this summer's electricity" by discussing it on July 14th, well let that person stay away from politics and continue writing in a toiletpaper
reading the comments here is like watching a freak show from hell, guys i pity you, you must have very sad lives to be this screwed up
let's just rejoice that they were freed unharmed, keep your defamatory accusations and hateful comments for yourselves, and since neither the government nor hezbollah claimed any credit for it, let's all cheer and thank geagea for saving them
@mabboud: i understand your frustration but don't expect peace, thepatriot, shab, bashir, oghalayini (and all other aliases they use, because i suspect it's a handful of people using lots of different "regular" accounts + random ones created all the time) to change their minds. they simply will not because they are not expressing opinions, they are doing their job of posting controversial, hateful & strife inciting comments.
the israelis officially pay people to do that, and you would think naharnet/lebanon is not one of their primary objectives?

mabboud, maybe you're right, i dont know, and as i said, "i suspect", i didnt pretend i was sure or knew anything certain about it.
however i do believe that naharnet would be a prime target, because it is widely read and because the m14 wing is itself a prime target.
most m14ers are not initially hateful and anti-shiite and the huge majority or 14er as well as 8ers do not hate each other to the point that they are ready to kill each other in a civil war.
this stands in the way of israeli plans, admitted by some officials like dan halutz (who right after the 2006 war said "yes we did target civilians, but for a good cause, it was to force the lebanese government to 'take action' against hezbollah"... pure hostage-taking discourse, but with the underlying objective being internal strife)
the israelis do not want to fight that war themselves, they know it's too risky, so they hope that in one way or another they will get the lebanese to do the dirty work for them
now how does all that have something to do with our above discussion? getting to it =]
the fact of having 'apparently' lots of lebanese expressing very hateful opinions, systematically bringing back every single point of disagreement on the table & making each one sound like a battle of personal pride, has a double effect:
on 14ers, it encourages them to 'imitate' this conflictual verbose, and as they identify themselves to part of the discourse, they adopt the rest of it. it is sad, but it is a well known and understood fact of social psychology that many people will adopt an idea they are not convinced of, only if they feel that most people think like this. conformism is in our genes.
on 8ers, it creates a sense of inter-lebanese conflict, dilutes the focus of who our real enemy is, and puts most supporters on the defensive, encouraging the above said effect on 14ers... all this working as a dynamic vicious circle, fueled by those who throw oil on the fire, get us closer and closer
