what he is saying, based on what the opponents of that law are criticizing, is that it does not fuel sectarianism as in fueling hatred and discrimination.
the fact that lebanon is sectarian cannot be denied, and nobody from the opposition agreed to work towards secularism (remember the negative reactions to berri's initiative in m14 camp, while it had some support in m8)
what this law does however, is ensure that each community is fairly and properly represented, instead of having minorities in each caza or mouhafaza drowned by the bigger communities.
and this is why all even the LF and kataeb agree with the orthodox gathering proposal, because they know that this way they can have their MPs elected without needing to kiss hands and make concessions to the future movement
well then let's go for full secularism, and abolish the sectarian structure of president-PM-speaker. if that's what you meant, then i'm with you.
in the mean time, none of the other proposals do that, so which to chose? and if we can't chose any, can we afford to not have elections in time?
gcb1 i was answering geha, he said ANY law that wants to treat him as per his sect is a step backwards.
the way he puts it, the only possible step forward would be secularism.
regarding the senate... how the heck is ONE MORE institution, and a HELL OF A LOT MORE politicians (along with all their wages and expenses and convoys a whatnot) going to do us any good?
we're a tiny country, our size and needs do not justify this, AND it's not even an answer to the election law problem (ie: even if we create a senate, which electoral law should we chose? back to square 1)
gcb it's easy to complain and find problems, but what we need is solutions.
for now this law is the only one that provides a solution while ensuring fair representation of all sects. as i said below creating a senate is an overkill for such a small country, would cost more to taxpayers, would only create more debate and more drama, and doesnt even solve the election law problem to start with.
so we either keep dreaming about a perfect world or we face the realities and try to make the best informed compromise to get things moving
i feel sad for you kafi, you seem to really a really dumb one. actually the only one as dumb as you here is bigsami, so i'm guessing you're the same person.
peace: they recover the bodies, film them, publish gore videos, and say it's the syrian army. for the people who believe rami abdlerahman is an "NGO" it makes good propaganda.
bigjohn: yes, but i dont believe the bodies could have drifted from a regime controlled area to a rebel one, unless the stream of the river was somehow reversed: the river goes down from the north, passes near aleppo and then goes into regime areas, and as far as i know, between the turkish border and aleppo it's a rebel area
