Jumblat: It’s Impossible to Carry on with Security Approach in Syria, Dialogue is Inevitable
إقرأ هذا الخبر بالعربيةProgressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblat noted on Monday that the developments in Syria demonstrated that it is impossible to carry on with the security approach over the country’s anti-regime protests.
He said in his weekly editorial in the PSP-affiliated al-Anbaa magazine: “A new approach should be adopted through resorting to dialogue.”
“Reform should be implemented practically and not theoretically,” he added.
“Only dialogue can solve the matters at hand, protect Syria’s unity, and fulfill the Syrian people’s aspirations for a better future,” stressed the Druze leader.
Jumblat noted: “It is necessary, now more than ever, to implement the reforms promised by Syrian President Bashar Assad, starting with lifting the emergency law, releasing all political prisoners, and holding officials responsible for the unlawful acts that have taken place whether by security officials or armed gangs.”
Protests against Assad broke out in March.
They were met with a bloody crackdown resulting in the deaths of over 1400 individuals and the arrest of over 12,000 others, according to rights groups.
What a two faced individual. This is a regime that must vanish and be remembered in history worse than the Nazi regime. What has dialogue achieved with their surrogates in Lebanon? Their Murshid says " I will keep my arms till doomsday, and do what you like". What did ur participation in the national dialogue achieve? Dialogue with Nassrallah got your back side kicked and almost killed. Do you have dialogue with someone pointing a gun to your head?
You are the least credible of the lot... spare us your weekly diatribe....!
You are right, a security approach with the people will never work . . . . Also, the dialogue with Assad will get these people no where . . . It is a matter of days, may be few weeks before a civil war breaks out in Syria.... Tribes have been armed to the teeth and are ready for it!! Best thing for Assad is to pack up his bags and walk away
Dialogue requires that all parties come to the table as equals. If one comes to the table armed and the other not, then the discussion is already over and dialogue is pointless.
When Hezbollah conforms to 1701, 1559 and the Taif Accord and disarms itself as all other parties are disarmed, then --- Dialogue.
Agreed ....and maybe the idiots in Lebanon that counts on the Assad regime to protect them and flood their hands with arms and weapons can now take a step back and evaluate their babaric process of building our country ....
ya walid ,going out of the cage u put urself in ,is not as easy as entering it.
jumping back is not easy but u can try,
BILAD EL ARZ HAS A GOD WHO TAKES CARE OF IT,allahumma bila shamata.
Like most of our oppotunistic politicians, this guy has a big stake in keeping the status quo in Syria, and will go down (like te rest) if the regime fell. So, how credible are all the (civilized) views of our poilitaciams, especially the bek!!!
My grandmother who is 91 years old said if the regime in Syria falls, she will engage in ex-marital affairs.....!
Syria's baath is in its last days. This is a true warning from mr jumblat to assad. he won't be-able to hold druze in syria for longer time. they will quit the army soon. Mr jumblat is also afraid cause he lost control on his supporte، no
something big will also happen in iran. I feel sorry for iran's and syria's dogs in lebanon. soon we'll say a lot of نعيماً يا ....
عاش لبنان
oh oh. Is this flip or flap? Now what side is he on?
I do not think the people who deffected from the syrian army and the others who are going to deffect will stop now. Its all out war on Bashar's alawite army.
It will take a while but the people will win at the end. A new syria will arise . Thats when big things will happen in lebanon. A big change is on the way soon.
Long live Lebanon and the freedom of the Lebanese people.
I think Jumblat is starting to lose control over the druze in Syria......
The regime is cracking down indeed. Joumblat knows that there is not much time left.
When Ramadan starts, there will be no turning back...it will be Friday everyday...
To Ali ;
No wonder in that. Your grandmother has always dreamed about an extra-marital affair. She is clever and has understood that the baathist régime is about to fall. She wants to prepare you about that eventuality so that you will not to be shocked if she does it.
neutral, your not very cleaver are you? Bashars army is mostly SUNNI ya chattour. Moreover, while i support the protestors in Syria, one can not forget somethin important, the syrian people who support bashar are 3-4 times more than those who oppose him. And unlike what you believe, its not only among the alawites, he has a large sunni base as well as the entire druze and christian community. The opposition in syria will fail because they have leaders who are worse than bashar, they are puppets of Saudi arabia and want to bring a form of destruction to syria - at least for minorities and non-salafi Muslims. I do not like Bashar el asad at all, he is a coward but the reality is the opposition leaders (not all, but those who are most prominent) happen to be worse. Dont bet your money of the bashar regimes fall because they wont fall. Their demise will come in the future but as for now, it hasent even started to fall.
