Geagea Appeals for Neutral Cabinet, Says President and PM-designate Shouldn't Waste Time

إقرأ هذا الخبر بالعربية W460

Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea urged on Tuesday the president and the prime minister-designate not to waste any time and use their authorities to form a neutral cabinet.

In remarks to the Central News Agency, Geagea said President Michel Suleiman and Premier-designate Tammam Salam should “not waste any additional time and use their constitutional authorities to form a neutral government (that excludes) the March 8 and 14 alliances.”

“Any such move has become an urgent salvation (method) in the interest of the nation,” he said.

Geagea called for a “capable and effective” cabinet.

“For the first time, experience is showing that the formation of the so-called all-embracing government is facing obstacles the size of a mountain,” he said.

Such obstacles are linked to “narrow interests,” the LF chief said about his Christian rival Free Patriotic Movement leader Michel Aoun, who has rejected the all-embracing cabinet based on the 8-8-8 formula and the rotation of portfolios among sects.

His objection is seen as the last obstacle preventing the line-up.

“A neutral government is the only one … that leads to an acceptable stability in the country and distances itself from the logic of division of shares,” Geagea said.

“By neutral I mean a non partisan (government) away from the March 8 and 14 alliances and not neutral from the sovereign policy represented by the Baabda Declaration,” he stressed.

Your non-patisan posts are illuminating to the feeble minds of sectarians like myself and others like me on this forum. The takfiri label assigned to your opponent is only a powerful sign of the strength of your ideas.

I agree w/ GeeGee's. A neutral cabinet will work in lebanon's interests only and won't be partisan. however, it may become a problem 4 the shia terroristas because they r working against lebanon.

Mystice. Take for instance the massive theft and pilfering of state coffers and state properties, do you know how long that has been going on, and done by every single side and all sects. Can we go on like this forever? Masalan take EDL, or for that matter any other service or utility of the land, is any of them all working like it should? Water? Anything ya bro, nothing works, and why? Because of theft and the pilfering of the treasury and the nation's income. In 2104, Lebanon should in fact be a leader in all fields, you name it, we should be at the forefront. Till now, nothing works well here. The thieves, yes, that's right, the thieves keep stealing, and they keep protecting each others backs, they are now all so worried that their mountains of crimes will be discovered, paper by paper.

Thumb -phoenix1 28 January 2014, 17:47

**, Sorry Typo, I meant Mystic. **

Thumb -phoenix1 28 January 2014, 17:56

Has anyone of you gone to any state office to do some papers lately? Any office please, haven't you all felt highly insulted by the way state employees treat you, delay you, invent one charge after the other just to skin you alive? Is this normal? Does anyone of them feel that they will have to render accounts one day? No, they all feel above the law, their traditional bosses are here to protect them, common, walaw? This is the lawless Lebanon that we all live in, it's a jungle, that simple. I remember when Bachir was not even elected yet as president, go to any Public Office, anyone I'll challenge you all, go take care of any paper and see how very polite, clean, and absolutely efficient they all were, from the bosses to the door keeper, they all knew who the big man would be. The people lived well then, the crooks were scared to death, but alas, the people's man got killed, and so were the people, and the mafia lives to this day. God knows Lebanon needs to change.

Thumb -phoenix1 28 January 2014, 16:42

Here I stand by Geagea's position, nothing he said here is wrong but right. It may not sound as good music to anyone who is delaying the proposed government, but truth is that with all this foot-dragging, accentuated by the mutual mistrust reigning supreme between allies of the M8 side and against the M14 side, our only way out of this situation is for the president to order the formation of neutral cabinet by Salam made up entirely and only of technocrats. Since the two main political M formations cannot agree on anything, paralyzing the country completely mean only one thing, let this new neutral cabinet see the light, and let our Mafia Ms take a back seat and start suffering their heart attacks. Anyone can run the nation better than the two of them. Yalla.

Thumb Mystic 28 January 2014, 16:59

A neutral government with Geagea on point. How would it be neutral then?

Thumb -phoenix1 28 January 2014, 17:13

Mystic, a neutral cabinet should mean by all means one that is not affiliated to either M8 or M14, or in fact to any political party. this neutral cabinet should be made up entirely of technocrats and highly qualified professionals who will take their orders only from their boss, PM Salam. Masalan, here I would vehemently propose the post of Finance and Energy for the best of the best, I really mean it, Mr. Demianos Khattar. Mr. Salam I am told has a very good line up of truly and truly good people, young, energetic, experienced, patriotic, zestful, very capable, man, you name it, they have it in them. Their only nationality is Lebanon, their only religion is Lebanon, their only party is Lebanon. Please bro, let's allow them the chance to work for us all, they can do it, and they will prove that in a very short time, they will fix the country back, something neither M8 or M14 can do, just let's give them the chance, for them, and for us all, that's all bro, that's all.

Thumb -phoenix1 28 January 2014, 17:04

Roar, no matter what you will say of me, I will never take it personally. You are my younger brother, I love you, you are punching me hard on the stomach, but my being the elder will take them coming from you. I pray one day you and I will meet, sit over a cool beer and enjoy what real friendship is, and I mean it. Sadly, politics do divide us once in a while, at least you are not a fake with me, and neither am I to you. despite is all, I stand by my views, they are me, the Phoenix and no one else'. Geagea though not my favorite cup of tea, but his positions remain far more viable with most people, Aoun to me remains a maverick, as unpredictable as ever. And I remain proud, in fact very proud to keep Sheikh Bachir Al Gemayel, my teacher, my commander, my hero, my KA2ED as my proofile picture. Bachir remains engraved till my last moment, Inshalah.

Thumb -phoenix1 28 January 2014, 17:41

Mystic brother, a neutral cabinet very much means a cabinet made representing all sects, here there's absolutely no disagreement, every sect will be represented. In fact, people in the know will tell you that the line up consists of exactly that. However where the novelty is, resides with the fact that none belong to any party, neither M8 affiliated nor M14. So far, has any traditional person been able to move the nation an inch forward or miles backwards? With all the problems mounting on our heads all, can we afford to procrastinate any further? This neutral cabinet simply scares the living daylights of the old establishment, for two main reasons: One, it will prove how inefficient they the old guard have been for decades, and from thence they will no longer ne able to steal from state coffers or for that matter anything else, as accountability will be the order of the day, Two, because of that, the people will have faith in the new faces and loathe the old ones, all of them in fact.

Missing helicopter 29 January 2014, 02:12

the_roar,
The constitution does not stipulate that a party must approve a list in advance before allowing the Parliament to vote granting or denying confidence.
So we all should abide by the constitution whereby the PM and President aare allowed to form the list they desire and submit to Parliament for a vote. The Parliament then will vote and either grant or deny confidence. Anyone supporting a party or group to do otherwise is simply undermining the constitution.

It's too late. Incompetent and corrupt Lebanese politicians had 3 years to form a neutral government and secure Lebanon. You have squandered that opportunity. Now, you have to wait until the Geneva talks are over. By then, it will be too late, because both sides will know that they cannot coexist and will have to divide the country.

Default-user-icon GameOver (Guest) 29 January 2014, 04:56

The Assad regime will look to its Lebanese allies to expand its territories. Hizb has already ceded Dahieh and in time will relocate whatever weapons left to more secure locations in Baalbek and South Lebanon. The road that runs from Baalbek through Zgharta to Tripoli will be the southern border of assad's greater syria. Assad will try to link this road to whatever parts of Damascus his regime still controls. Israel will welcome Hizb's buffer zone in the South that keeps al-qaeda jihadists from breaching its border with what used to be Lebanon. The rest of the country will be in turmoil. Jumblatt will control the Shouf mountains. The Christians will be split between FPM and Kataeb and LF. The Sunni's will also be split in different groups (moderates, conservatives, and extremists). All these groups will battle each other until one group consolidates power and rules them all.
