Lebanon's lingering political crises are expected to be resolved within one package that would be acceptable by the political arch-foes, media reports said on Wednesday.

Sources said in comments published in the Kuwaiti newspaper al-seyassah, the new head of state will be elected within the upcoming six months, in particular in June.

The sources said that the solution to the presidential crisis will include a comprehensive package that would include the lineup of the new cabinet, a new electoral law and the name of the new army leader.

The sources continued that Army Commander General Jean Qahwaji, Central Bank Governor Riad Salameh and former minister Jean Obeid still have the highest chances to reach the Baabda Palace.

“Choosing a candidate will not be a difficult matter as long as the rival parties reach a political understanding to elect a centrist president capable of managing the differences between all sides, and head a dialogue that would safeguard the country,” the sources added.

Poor security and the disagreement over the law compelled the extension of parliament's term until June 2017.

Ongoing disputes between the rival March 8 and 14 camps over a compromise candidate have also thwarted the elections.

Lebanon has been without a president since the term of Michel Suleiman ended in May.
