Aoun: The Sunnis will be with us Even if March 14 Boycotts Cabinet

Free Patriotic Movement leader Michel Aoun stressed on Wednesday that Sunnis will support the March 8 forces even if the other team rejected to participate in the new government.

“If the other team refuses to participate with us in the cabinet, that would be its choice, but Sunnis will be with us,” Aoun told a news conference in Rabiyeh following talks with Premier-designate Najib Miqati.

“We don’t have reservations. The atmosphere is one of consensus,” he said after Miqati visited him as part of protocol measures to meet with former prime ministers.

Commenting on media reports that Western countries were monitoring the situation after Hizbullah-backed Miqati came to power, Aoun said: “We are an independent state and no one can give us descriptions.”

“We are open to everyone” and “our national history and behavior” are a clear sign of that, the FPM leader added.

He reiterated that the March 8 was “prioritizing national unity and a policy that embraces all sides.”
