Berri schedules new presidential election session
Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri on Tuesday scheduled a new presidential election session for 11am Thursday.
This will be the eleventh electoral session since Michel Aoun’s presidential term ended last year.
Berri has described Lebanon as “a boat lost at sea” due to the parties’ failure to elect a new head of state.
In remarks to Annahar newspaper published Monday, Berri said he was feeling “disgusted” by the impasse.
Political sources meanwhile quoted Berri as saying, in remarks to al-Joumhouria newspaper, that the stances of the political parties have not changed and “accordingly the upcoming session will not change anything in the current impasse.”
