Report: Pace of army deployment in south among contention points
The timing of the Lebanese Army’s deployment in the area south of the Litani River is among the points of contention in the negotiations, informed sources told the Israeli Public Broadcasting Corporation.
“Washington is demanding a fast deployment of the Lebanese Army south of Litani and the establishment of checkpoints, and the messages coming from Lebanon indicate that the Lebanese Army’s deployment won’t take place this quickly,” the sources added.
Hezbollah has been delaying the proper deployment of the Lebanese Army in south Lebanon since 1994.
General Michel Aoun whilst still in Paris: "In Lebanon there was a UN Resolution (452), meanwhile the resistance (Hezbollah) has prolonged the time of occupation (for South Lebanon). There was a proposal from Israel in 1994. Would the Lebanese government tell us why at that time it withdrew from the negotiations when the Israeli proposal for withdrawal from South Lebanon was submitted".
