Miqati Tasks Lebanese Ambassador to Send Message to Syrian FM over Shelling of Border Towns

Prime Minister Najib Miqati held talks on Monday with Lebanon’s Ambassador to Syria Michel Khoury over the ongoing Syrian violations of Lebanese territories.

He requested the ambassador to send an urgent message to the Syrian Foreign Ministry over Syria’s ongoing shelling of Lebanese border towns.

The message would include Lebanon’s warning of the “negative repercussions” the shelling is having on the security measures the army has taken to maintain the stability along the Lebanese-Syrian border.

Syrian troops have repeatedly carried out incursions into Lebanese border areas in the northern Bekaa and Akkar since the eruption of anti-regime protests in Syria in March 2011.

Syria had repeatedly said that it is chasing defectors and gunmen during its incursions into Lebanon.

Rockets fired during clashes in Syria have also occasionally landed in Lebanese territory.

On Friday over 30 shells landed in Akkar, injuring an Internal Security Forces member and damaging houses.

On Saturday, a Baabda palace statement said: “Syrian officials vowed through contacts made with them to hold accountable those who shelled Akkar on Thursday night and apologized for the mistake that happened without the knowledge of (Syrian) authorities.”

Despite, the apology, shelling was once again reported on Saturday night in Akkar.

You should go to the Akkari villages and cheer the locals, then perhaps, your friend. Bashar who gave you your billion dollars will stop the shelling? Yu should try, it's not like we have anything to lose by trying... You aren't a PM worth protecting, are you now? Go there, NOW!

Mikati to Bachar : It's okay for you to kill your own people, but don't kill ours.

Big LOL

Let the Lebanese army shell the Syrian villages across the border to see how they like it.

he has nothing to do with the neighboring villages in Syria
he has to shell the military basis near the border
the regime will be more happy if we shell the villages

our army isn't messed up in the head, they won't enjoy bombing civilians.

That's not how it works Mr. Miqati. Your foreign minister should summon the Syrian Ambassador and give me a letter of reprimand requesting that the shelling stops. If not, Lebanon should launch a complaint with the UN and have UN resolution 1701 apply to the the rest of the borders.

We have two neighbors that are mutually enemies. One destroyed the south & infrastructure from the air, and the other had been shelling/assassinating and arming Jabal Mohsen Alaweet in Tripoli to keep the country unstable.

It is about time that the Lebanese people realise that the only enemy in the south of the country is Hizballah, which has taken control of whole areas of the south of the country and run it as if it was their own private territory. The country to the south, Israel, is not an enemy of Lebanon and the peace-loving Lebanese people, but only of Hizballah.

What country in the world would allow such disgrace on itself ???????????????? Who would allow a neighboring country to injure and kill its citizens and army with nothing done about it !!!!!!??????????
Shame on Miqati and the Suleiman and the Army for not taking a MUCH MUCH MUCH stronger stance. TFEH 3a hel balad bala sharaf, lets just scratch the lebanese national anthem and sings the syrian and iranian one while we are at it.

That's very courageous from the PM: To ask Lebanon's Ambassador to convey a claim to Syria's Foreign Minister:
Firstly: The PM should address himself to the Syrian Ambassador in Lebanon to lodge a claim
Secondly: I do not think that our Ambassoador would dare transmitting such a message to the Syrians
This government is becoming a joke!

Thumb jadski 03 September 2012, 20:04

Becoming ???? our government has never been not a joke. it has become disgraceful/shameful/honor less. This is the worst government in Lebanese history and that ever will be. unbelievable what a failure . its embarrassing its citizens to be lebanese.

I have a feeling Mikati will "defect" into exile soon.
