Briton Held for Killing German who Filmed Daughter in Spain

Spanish police said Monday they arrested a British man accused of killing a German for filming his young daughter in a restaurant in a posh seaside resort.

The Briton, aged 40, attacked the 43-year-old German after seeing him filming the minor with a tablet device in the restaurant near the yacht-packed port in Sotogrande on Spain's Costa del Sol on Saturday night.

Gibraltar Airport Evacuated over Suspect Luggage

Gibraltar airport was evacuated on Sunday and the tiny British territory's border with Spain closed for several hours because of a suspicious piece of luggage on a London-bound plane, police said.

The police were called to the airport in early afternoon after a baggage handler thought he saw smoke coming from a piece of luggage that was being put onto an easyJet flight that was getting ready for departure to London's Gatwick airport, a police spokesman said.

Paris Denies Drafting Resolution against Hizbullah, Says 'Plotting' for Lebanon's Security

French Ambassador Patrice Paoli has denied that Paris was drafting a U.N. Security Council Resolution against Hizbullah as a top official in New York warned that the situation in the border area between Lebanon and Israel remains “very fragile.”

France “calls for the protection of Lebanon's sovereignty, its territorial integrity and Resolution 1701,” Paoli said in remarks published in An Nahar daily on Friday.

U.N. Strongly Condemns Killing of Spanish Peacekeeper, Sets up Inquiry

The U.N. Security Council on Wednesday condemned "in the strongest terms" last week's killing of a Spanish peacekeeper in southern Lebanon and decided to set up a board of inquiry to investigate his death, a senior U.N. official said.

Wednesday's statement comes a week after Cpl. Francisco Javier Soria Toledo was killed during the Israeli military's exchange of fire with Hizbullah in a disputed border area.

Spanish Court Sentences Six Somalis for Piracy

A Spanish court on Wednesday convicted six Somalis for piracy and sentenced them each to 16 and a half years in jail for attacking a Spanish tuna trawler off the coast of Somalia in 2012.

The six men have been held in a Spanish jail since November 2012 since being caught by Dutch sailors after they ambushed the Izurdia off the Horn of Africa using AK-47 assault rifles.

Spanish Police Arrest 10 Algerian Human Traffickers

Spanish police said Tuesday they have arrested ten suspected members of a ring that smuggled Algerian migrants by boat into Spain, charging around 600 euros ($680) per person to make the dangerous crossings in which two people died.

Officers detained the ten Algerians, who are thought to have smuggled "dozens" of migrants into Spain, in Almeria and Murcia in southeastern Spain, including the suspected leader of the gang, police said in a statement.

Spain, Israel Agree Joint Probe on Peacekeeper's Death in Lebanon

Spain and Israel have agreed to carry out a joint investigation on the death of a Spanish U.N. peacekeeper who was killed in Lebanon during Israeli shelling near the border, Madrid said on Friday.

The soldier was killed on Wednesday when the Israeli military shelled border areas in southern Lebanon following a Hizbullah attack that left two Israeli soldiers dead, Spanish authorities said.
