the war on lebanon was planned and coming anyway, by the israeli's own admission. and the attack by HA was aimed at taking prisoners to swap them with the lebanese prisoners who were in israeli jails since decades. the over-reaction of israel was a surprise to everyone, and later made sense knowing they had decided to go through with it one year earlier.
however HA and backers did help hamas with logistical support, training, and supplying them with weapons, and enabled hamas to grow stronger. in 2009 there was again horrific destruction and killing in gaza, but the difference was that israel didnt manage to reoccupy the land as they had planned (the land offensive was the 2nd phase they talked about, and the 3rd was to reinstall israeli control on the ground, all this for a simple reason: they had just realized there is huge gaz reserves in gaza's waters, and so the gaza withdrawal turned out to be a bad idea for them)

ps: there was no cease-fire to be broken, i said the answer to the CALL for cease-fire TALKS is this attack.
israel never answered the call for a cease-fire to be effective, if they had i'm sure the gazans would have respected it, like they respected it 2008 for several months while israel kept on bombing gaza.
then at the first response by hamas in months they unleashed the 2008/2009 massacre which coincided with the obama election so the world wasn't looking.

well i think you need to study some more, and learn to read. i said practically all the media in europe and the US, that doesnt include al jazeera, lest qatar became a european country overnight.

also go back to your history books and check what israel's reaction was to hamas coming to power, and how they unleashed aggression and collective punishment on gaza ever since hamas won the elections.
