Two members of the Safwan family who have survived a near-drowning incident off the Turkish coast in an illegal migration attempt arrived at the airport at midnight, the state-run National News Agency said on Thursday.
Maher and Moussa Safwan, 18 and 23, arrived at the Rafik Hariri International Airport in Beirut on Thursday at midnight on board the Turkish Airlines, NNA added.

Lebanon's Jake al-Mir was the youngest developer to be awarded Apple's WWDC 2015 scholarship for developing an app on speeding and driving, reported the Kuwaiti daily al-Anba on Thursday.
The only Arab at the event, Jake al-Mir developed the “NoSpeed” app to tackle the problem of speeding and decrease car accidents, especially in Lebanon.

The Syndicate Coordination Committee announced that it will hold a general strike next week on the same day that the parliament bureau is set to convene to tackle the agenda of an upcoming legislative session.
A member of the committee explained to al-Joumhouria newspaper on Thursday that it chose the same day to “pressure the bureau to include the new wage scale draft law as the first article of the legislative session.”

Preparations are underway among political powers to attend the legislative session that Speaker Nabih Berri is pressing to hold, reported al-Joumhouria newspaper on Thursday.
Sources from the March 14 alliance said that the camp is expected to hold an “expanded meeting” of its members before Monday “in an attempt to come up with a unified stance over the agenda of the session.”

It identified the 49-year-old Lebanese militant as A. M., saying he goes under the nom de guerre “Habibo.”

The presidential elections were postponed on Wednesday for the 30th time following a lack of quorum at parliament.

Construction works preparing the Srar landfill in northern Akkar district have been halted on Wednesday after protesters and several students held a sit-in protesting the move, the state-run National News Agency said.
A number of campaigners erected tents in Akkar's area of al-Abboudieh and school students held a sit-in in the area to halt the works of bulldozers amid heavy security presence, NNA added.

Finance Minister Ali Hassan Khalil warned that danger is approaching the “structure of the state” as the parliamentary paralysis and failure to stipulate loans of the World Bank has pushed the latter to issue a warning that it would exclude Lebanon from its aid list, As Safir daily reported on Wednesday.
“Frankly, I will be compelled in the end to close down the finance ministry and close its iron gate if we did not rectify the deteriorating conditions and stop the attrition. I advise all political forces to take my words seriously,” said Khalil.

His sources told the daily that his patience is wearing thin and that he “will not wait forever” for the issue to be resolved.
