Prime Minister Tammam Salam met on Wednesday with top Egyptian officials during a one-day official visit to Cairo.

Salam held talks with President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, his Egyptian counterpart Ibrahim Mahlab and the Grand Imam of al-Azhar Sheikh Ahmed el-Tayeb.

Mustaqbal leader and former Prime Minister Saad Hariri discussed with the movement's senior officials in Jeddah the latest developments.

According to al-Liwaa newspaper published Saturday, Hariri met with head of al-Mustaqbal parliamentary bloc Fouad Saniora and Interior Minister Nouhad al-Mashnouq in presence of his adviser Nader Hariri.

Prime Minister Tammam Salam held talks on Wednesday in Saudi Arabia with King Salman bin Abdul Aziz, who emphasized the need for Lebanese factions to end their country's political deadlock.

King Salman held talks behind doors with Salam, who was accompanied by a ministerial delegation.

Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblat is reportedly seeking to convince Mustaqbal Movement chief Saad Hariri to agree on demands by head of Free Patriotic Movement MP Michel Aoun concerning the appointment of Commando Regiment chief Brig. Gen. Chamel Roukoz as army chief.

Al-Akhbar newspaper reported that Jumblat contacted several parties, including Hizbulah, expressing his readiness to try to convince Hariri with accepting Aoun's demands.

Al-Mustaqbal parliamentary bloc on Tuesday accused Hizbullah of "hijacking the presidency" through its insistence on the candidacy of its ally MP Michel Aoun, as it held the party responsible for any harm against its officials in light of recent statements by Hizbullah officials.

“The bloc once again condemns Hizbullah's continued hijacking of the presidency through its insistence on a sole candidate and its attempt to paralyze the Lebanese democratic system and turn it into one of the regimes of hegemony and oppression,” said the bloc in a statement issued after its weekly meeting.

Al-Mustaqbal movement leader ex-PM Saad Hariri snapped back Sunday at Hizbullah chief Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah after the latter warned that his group might intervene militarily in the outskirts of the Bekaa border town of Arsal to oust jihadist militants entrenched there.

“We in the al-Mustaqbal movement openly declare that the Lebanese state and its legitimate institutions are our guarantee, choice and sanctuary, and any talk of other guarantees is delusional, rejected and an absurd attempt at engaging in suicidal projects,” said Hariri in a statement.

Al-Mustaqbal movement leader ex-PM Saad Hariri on Friday condemned as “terrorist” the suicide bombing that rocked a Shiite mosque in the eastern Saudi region of Qatif, noting that it is aimed at “stirring sedition” and that it serves the interests of Yemen's Huthi rebels and other Iran-backed “militias.”

“The objectives of this criminal attack are obvious, because it is part of a vicious cycle seeking to stir sedition among the sons of the kingdom and to jeopardize its stability,” Hariri said in a statement.

AL-Mustaqbal Movement leader Saad Hariri reportedly informed Free Patriotic Movement chief Michel Aoun that he rejects the appointment of a new army commander ahead of the election of a new head of state.

Sources revealed in comments published in An Nahar newspaper Friday that Hariri's envoy told Aoun that he doesn't object to the appointment of Commando Regiment chief Brig. Gen. Chamel Roukoz as army chief.

Al-Mustaqbal Movement chief Saad Hariri emphasized on Thursday that Hizbullah's attempts to involve the army in foreign battles based on a preset date and location will not be successful.

“We will not stand still and watch the viscous attempts to involve the Lebanese army in battles that have been pre-determined in time and place by Hizbullah,” said Hariri via twitter.

Al-Mustaqbal Movement would reportedly agree on the appointment of Commando Regiment chief Brig. Gen. Chamel Roukoz as army chief if Free Patriotic Movement leader MP Michel Aoun abandoned his presidential aspirations.

Al-Akhbar newspaper reported on Wednesday that the adviser of al-Mustaqbal Movement chief Saad Hariri, Nader Hariri, informed the aide of Speaker Nabih Berri, Finance Minister Ali Hassan Khalil, that the movement doesn’t reject the appointment of Roukoz, Aoun's son-in-law, on condition the FPM chief withdraws from the presidential race.
